Qantas Business Class meals & menus

So I flew the east-west route the other day for the first time in many years on Qantas in Business, and I was utterly appalled.

For a start, the menu.

This had just been thrown on the seat, no care and was all crumpled (leftover from previous flight perhaps?).
I opted, against my better judgement, to try the Asparagus salad thing.

Fortunately, they gave me two pieces of bread.

Then, after having already seen the excuse for a 'big plate' of Kofta, I opted for the Chicken.

Three tiny pieces of chicken, that would have equated to around 2/3rds of a chicken thigh (although this was breast).

The menu mentioned cous cous, although it looked like israeli cous cous (which is fine, but it's not what I was expecting).

The desert was a 'white chocolate and apricot ball' that was smaller than a golf ball, and a tad larger than the old chocolate covered macadamias. I was not even offered the cheese despite it being on the menu. I asked, and it was 'oh we'll see if we have any' and then 10 minutes for a knife. In addition, the cheese was dry, and had obviously been left open to air for the flight.

I was also unfortunate enough to have been landed on the 330 with the business 'workspace' seats. I've had better comfort on a Virgin E190.

Overall, I will not be headed back to Qantas. The crew were so/so, and clearly rushing around. I think i've become spoiled having flown Virgin's coast-to-coast business so much, where the food and service standards have been exceptional (bar one or two occasions).

So I flew the east-west route the other day for the first time in many years on Qantas in Business, and I was utterly appalled.

After many tests done by aviation "experts" it was concluded that due to "safety" reasons on such a "short" flight QF can only serve you exactly 3 pieces of asparagus followed by exactly 3 pieces of chicken.
Any airline who serve a proper meal on 200-300 min flight simply doesn't care about safety.

If all else fails (as it clearly has for a flight with a sticker price of over $1500) then go the liquid lunch/dinner route. Or does that violate QF's cost cutting enforcement pledge? (Err sorry I mean to say violate their safety guidelines...)

That's always my strategy...serve me a cost-cutting-stingy-bean-counter meal and I'll drink the difference and more to offset :)

I was driving at the other end. Also, I was struggling to even get a glass of wine. The other side of the cabin had a male FA walking through every 5 minutes with wines, my side had no one.

As I say, was driving anyway so it wasn't an option. The wine was only so/so too. I would write a letter off to Qantas, but I know i'll just get a 'thank you for your email' reply. I will try them one more time when the new 'suites' are out, but get the feeling they will be inferior to the Virgin suites (just basing it on the Emirates Business product which I personlly do not like, and i'm assuming they'll have a similar 'feel' to the new Qantas ones).

This was my vegetarian meal on QF 839 DRW-MEL on 26/12. It does not look great and it did not taste great either. ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1419985163.706103.jpg
Mrs NTflyer could not even eat her chicken, so we were both pretty pretty disappointed.

Roast chicken dish. The cream was mayonnaise. Cake was a baked mango cheesecake (IIRC).

Alternate was a cold risoni salad with lamb.

My chicken dish was one of the best that I have had in recent years in domestic J. Chicken was very tasty and moist/juicy with crispy beans that weren't over-cooked.

Well done QF.

From QF435 on 27 December (All Day Dining).

I had the Savoury French Toast, with Jarlsberg, Mushrooms and Spiced Tomato Chutney. I found it to be a tasty and light dish. There was a great depth of flavour in the dish, with the sharp Jarlsberg contrasting well with the chutney that had a bit of a kick to it.

Other options were a Chicken Caesar Salad, or a Spiced Pumpkin and Coconut Soup.

I was the only J pax this morning and the cooked meal was eggs, tomato relish, mushrooms and bacon. As I was the only one, she also have an extra piece of bread, a muffin and a cranberry juice

Which airport and how early in the afternoon? I'm flying out of SYD mid-afternoon tomorrow and would look forward to trying out one of those pies! :D

MEL JLounge has it too. But CBR JLounge seems to do it more.
