Qantas Business Class dinner - a 'hotdog' ??

Ok .. I have given Qantas a miss for a while now, but had to fly them yesterday. 4 hour flight, the dinner option was basically either soup, duck curry or a 'hot dog'. When I ordered the hot dog option, the crew apologised even before it was delivered, and offered me the duck if I wanted it as well. I don't like duck. What was delivered was, at best, a breakfast sausage in a dinner roll. It was tiny, and revolting. If they think this constitutes a business class dinner - they are sadly amiss. Whoever is in charge of Qantas' domestic business class catering should be fired. This was an efffing expensive flight. I don't expect 5 star food, just edible, normal food. I am sticking with VA from now on, at least if I don't like their business class food they will grab me a sandwich from the economy purchase cart. The crew were embarrassed to serve it... I was stunned. What the hell is going on with the Qantas decision makers?

Is it possible to say what flight this was? At four hours, I assume it was to/from PER.

Just wish they would serve this fine dining experience to the Board, the CEO and his management team

I hope you'll drop a message to QF feedback to let then know what you think, and also the impact on your travel choices.
Surely someone must look at the overall tone of the feedback we send then on these changes (in hope...)

A picture paints a thousand words..... (Why people don't whip out their mobile and take a snap is beyond me)

Agreed about the pictures.

Sounds as if it is the updated version of the Mexican fast food option that was on the previous J menu.

Without a picture it's hard to tell - however you may not get much different on the main competitor considering they offer sausage rolls as part of the J menu...

I was just about to say the same thing. It's a Luke Mangan Pork and Fennel sausage roll with ketchup ;)
In general I find the catering in QF J to be superior to VA J.
I would not be impressed with a hot dog on either airline  FWIW I've never eaten a hot dog in my life and I don't intend to start now.

Yep, gotcha - I usually feel the same when I'm underwhelmed, either with QF or VA. These long domestic J flights are well over 3K$ return, sometimes closer to 4K$ ... The argument usually goes that the reason for this is the floor space consumed ... but I just don't buy that 100% ... On a good day I could buy probably 8 Y return seats for the same money. Its fine, its all fine, but please don't insult me with miserable penny pinching when you've just gouged my wallet without mercy.

Agree. I don't expect all that much either. I do expect reasonable portions, edible standard type food, presented with at least a little bit of care ... thats pretty much it, I'm happy.

Its one of the reasons I stick with VA as well for J flights. By and large I'm not disappointed with the transcon VA service/product (A330) but when I am, same as you, I'll make a point of choosing, perhaps several times, from the Y menu _and_ make a complaint to VA about the food - have received a credit note more then once when VA's J has dropped the ball.

I have had a 'hot dog' on VA as a 'snack' on a 5pm HBA-MEL flight on a E90.

It was OK - for a 'snack' for such a short flight.

Please do us all a favour and complain to Qantas. I doubt there is a Qantas business class flight that costs under $500. A hot dog is beyond a joke. Given that generally you receive decent wine in J, its ridiculous that a meal choice doesn't befit the wine.

Forgive them as they need to duck... er, suck us dry financially, and provide the cheapest at the least cost to them, but still take as much $ as they can.
OT here but, ... Opposition anslogy... Eg: Compare for eg, VA lounge in PER dom. To VA SYD dom or VA MEL dom.
No runway of plane viewable re blurred screens all round...
Not good.
