Qantas A380 - Upper deck economy

How about 35G? I currently have 35G requested on a QF1 A380 flight. There's an empty seat next to me, so far. SeatGuru says that "proximity to the lavatories" may be a bother, but it does seem as though only a few people will be using those toilets, so I'm hoping that won't be an issue. There aren't any other upper deck economy seats available for me to select. Should I stick with it, or take a seat downstairs?

Dr FM sat in row 36 last year and didn't find toilets etc an issue. She and Master FM are both fans of upper deck economy - service is very good apparently and they enjoy the feel of the mini cabin. they are both silver so have never been able to choose further forward than row 36

So me and Mrs Colster are off to Barcelona in May and I got 33JK outbound, and I noticed that inbound 51JK were blocked out (waiting for bassinet use?) - anyway, one call to the plat line got those seats and we are good to go!

My partner and I were in 32A/32B on a QF A380 to HKG a couple of weeks ago. Not too many people use those toilets and when they are occupied they tend to hand around the door. I like the mini-cabin thing but it can feel a little claustrophobic when the lights are dimmed during the day.

Not bad at all ... but if you are tall then your knees may go up against the bulkhead.

Only if your upper leg (Femur) is longer than 800mm...

Not sure if it's been noted already, but it appears that QF are now blocking 36D/F by default (not available for selection even as a WP). For those who prefer a makeshift bed across 3 seats on a flight that's unlikely to sell out, 36F has now become a tad more attractive!

yep they've done this for a couple of years now and then they only open it up if the flight is full.

Just arrived home from a Qantas flight LAX->MEL and had row 32 (32G) on the a380 upper deck. Overall, it was a nice flight and here is my review and a couple of pictures.

As mentioned by other AFF members the upper deck feels nicer, the space is quieter because there is less people and I also found the service to be better. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I never had to wait for the bathroom and it was always clean, however it was small. I walked downstairs and found the back downstairs bathroom to be bigger though not as clean.

For my seat, both arm rests were fixed and couldn't be moved up. I am 183 cm (6 ft) and found the bulkhead a little too close for my liking, I think if you were 170 cm or less row 32 would be awesome. Sometimes I would stretch my feet out the door but only when it was quiet and to the side so the staff could get past easily. They seemed ok with it and having that extra leg room was nice. It was also great not having someone recline back into you. I was lucky enough to have a shadow in 32F so I could use the extra blanket and pillow.

If you fly economy upper deck I would recommend the following seats:
- 35J/K exit row with heaps of leg room
- 32A/K if you are 170 cm or less
- 32D/G if you are 171 cm or more and still like bulkhead seats
- row 33 for a standard seat

Fast boarding and exiting via the upper bridge is pretty cool too

35K is my favourite seat, only downside is the lack of a window but that's not a big issue for me. When I flew back from the US with my girlfriend last time we got 36J/K which are great for a couple. It's nice not having to worry about reclining your seat into someone else's space.

Upper deck is certainly the best option in my opinion.

Agree on 32A somewhat. At just over 170cm the bulkhead is a little close. However the win for me is not being squished in by a seat in front. And the side storage is fabulous.

The only real downsides to 35J/K are:
1. No side bins
2. Cold air from the door
3. Tiny overhead bins

But at at 186CM I would take 35J/K ahead of 32 J/K and make sure I was at the front of the queue for boarding.

I'm 173cm and I could straighten my legs out and rest them on the magazine pocket with no issues. Works for me!

Height is definitely the key to comfort in row 32. At 183cm, it is too cramped for me. I'd suggest you're about the tallest person that would be comfortable in the bulkhead row.

I did the same. Wish I'd thought of stuffing a pillow in it though!
