Qantas A380 refurbishment news and updates.

The F lounges will return. Probably paired down service to start (I know it's already been paired back over the years! lol) - I have no doubt.

Apart from the QF 380 service, there's the other OW carriers.

Plus Platinum isn't just about F lounge access. Sure, it's a big part of course but it's also about upgrade priority, extra bags and all the rest. I can see why some would think "no F lounge why bother?" sure.. but what if you only ever fly domestic? Hey presto J lounge it is !

And obviously as travel rebounds (over a few years it seems) as more and more open up services ramp up then the status will return for those that fly anyway.

imo

yeah, 3 x 32kg free bag in the usa on AA alone is worth WP for me. rest is a bonus.
can you request a award seat be opened up as a gold? another benefit i'd used extensively and value.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Without F lounges there’s not that many other benefits for being a Platinum.

I appreciate getting the New Zealand call centre rather than the one in the Phillipines

No, only QFWP and above has that privilege

Thought so. any idea if there is an extremely thorough comparison of gold vs plat qff anywhere? approaching LTG and interested to see what ill loose (ive never been *only* a gold before due to FIFO, but its coming up soon!)

You will find it's a good middle ground to be on. No status to have to chase and not locked to Qantas all the time. On the odd occasion you have 3 big bags the payment for the 3rd one is a lot cheaper than the cost of chasing the status.

Whilst i dont disagree for domestic, my main issue is international travel tbh.

us travel with 3 32 kg bags (I am a serious technical diver and travel with 2 x 32kgs minimum to dive, normally 3 x 32s, drysuit, rebreather etc). This is where it really kicks in. AA gives 3 x 32s, BA gives the same. And I think qatar too? travel on asian/ME airlines is almost impossible with the baggage done by weights!

Manila now closed (😍), I read on another thread. And Cape Town closing this weekend. Hooray. 😀

Edit: Regarding the A380s, I hope that they all get done up and can be put back in the air for the next decade at least.

Where did you find out about this? Would be interested in finding out more details.

So, you are going to miss Manila and Cape Town that much? 🤣

I hope that It’s permanent, based on my painful experiences.

Personally, I hope it is not permanent. Reduction in call centre staff only leads to longer wait times for everyone

I’m probably more concerned about the quality of the service.

Edit: Especially for A380 flights

I assume that all the a380 staff, UK and AUS based are all currently stood down. Therefore options in moving then around would be limited. Is this correct? I though it heard that the WB twins teams were able to work across a larger range of craft unlike the 4 engine crews thus giving a lot more crewing options.

All crew are stood down with the exception of course those doing the limited domestic and international flying (Most of the flying is completely voluntary for crew to work at this stage but how it is allocated varies)

Not sure what you mean by the WB twins?
But Australian crew are either 747/330 or 380/787 endorsed
UK are 380/787 endorsed
NZ are 380/747/330 endorsed
