The way news.com.au made it out to sound, the aircraft pretty much fell out of the sky... I refuse to put a link to it here because I don't want to be generating them traffic.

Edit: Although after skimming through the 9's report, they don't do much better.

Harvyk, I will post the link from nonews.

Not because of the content of the article, but the file vision that made an appearance instead.

QF2 lands in Perth due to mechanical problem.

Apologies if there's already a thread on this.

Overnight QF2 from Dubai landed in Perth (1am) due to an "air conditioner" issue resulting in the pilot rapidly dropping to 10,000ft.

Is it just me, or are these A380s not particularly reliable?

Article: Qantas plane plunges 30,000 feet in mid-air drama after air conditioning fails - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

PS: It seems like poor journalism (I'd expect better from the ABC) to use the word 'plunge'. It's a controlled descent... They could use the word 'rapid' if they want but IMO the word 'plunge' suggests it was uncontrolled.

Here's some information about the QF2 from earlier today: Statement: Qantas Flight QF2 travelling from Dubai to Sydney

A second A380 out of SYD has been turned around due to electrical problems. This comes after a 737 returned to Perth with problems. 3 QF flights in one day...

Article: Qantas A380 turned around after technical problems, becoming third to do so in 24 hours - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Yes, there was another flight that returned to Perth today. To clarify, QF904 from PER to KTA landed normally. It made a precautionary air return due to an odour in the cabin.

The 3rd flight PaulST is referring to is QF7 that returned to SYD. It had issues with inflight entertainment, seat power & some toilets. The decision was made for customer comfort on what is a long flight:

It's fair to say it's been a challenging 24 hours from an operational perspective, but our crews are doing their best under the difficult circumstances. Our focus at this time is to minimise the impact to disrupted customers.

Generally you get that sort of comment from someone who has either had nothing to do with them, or who is a Boeing fan. As someone who is deeply involved with them, I'd say that they are more reliable than the -400 was at the same age, and it had the benefit of being a development of an older aircraft.

BTW, half of 380 is 190.

The press in their reporting on these 'incidents' showed their total incompetence to gather assess and report a series of facts.

All these events are quite normal and correct procedure was followed.

It debases everything else you read in the press when you know slightly more than public joe and how it's maligned and sensationalized.
