Re: Qanas A380-01 Pictures

Those green seats in Y are F'ugly :D ..... they might as well just alternate the seats with yellow then, make it the flying 'green & gold'

Re: Qanas A380-01 Pictures

And have a look in the section behind the green seat (before you avert your eyes! ew....) and you'll see red seats in economy config as well.

Re: Qanas A380-01 Pictures

Marc Newson is quite a smug looking b@stard in that pic isn't he. I probably would be too if i pocketed a bunch of cash for doing nothing much new. Let's hope he has focused on details this time around - the infamous non-stacking J crockery comes to mind.

I really don't understand the love affair QF have with him and Neil Perry.

I just had another look at the picture of the 'The self-service beverage and food bar for economy class passengers', in the bottom left hand corner you can just see the fabric for what I am guessing is another set of Y seats (due to the carbon-fibre seat backing). I think that I can see an orange/gold colour fabric (happy to be corrected).

Therefore, we have green, red and orange/gold in Y.

Re: Qanas A380-01 Pictures

The different coloured Y seats probably just makes it easier to navigate around the cabin.

Probably, but they could have chosen better colours.... Newson has taken the retro thing a bit far I think...

Re: Qanas A380-01 Pictures

Its really hard to judge colours in am empty aircraft. Most of the time when passengers are able to see the colour scheme, there will be lots of other people also in the aircraft, many of them seen as heads popping above the seats. The presence of people in the cabin will likely break up the sea of a single colour and may actually look considerably different to an empty cabin.

Yes I think that this is a good point.

I have some more information about the interior colours -

On show are the reds of the soil in the outback, the burnt amber of ripening wheat, the green of coastal pastures, the chocolate of the mountains and the taupe tones of our endless coast.

So I guess I spotted the 'burnt amber' colour earlier. However, do you think that there is chocolate coloured fabric somewhere we haven't seen yet?

Where do I found those chocolate mountains?

and if they have the Qantas napkin thingy on the headrest, that will break it up as well.
Also depends on the colour of the carpet - although I can only imagine it will be dark?

Maybe a carpet like the QF First lounges - the seats are then a strong bold colour against it?

I note First appears to have a plain blue carpet

Re: Qanas A380-01 Pictures

When there are two large economy sections, one upstairs and one down, having the seats different colours would be a huge help to prevent people from 'getting lost' and sitting in the 'same seat' but on the wrong deck. With weary passengers on a 15 hour flight, this is more than possible. Different coloured Y zones would probably prevent this.

I thought Qantas were only having economy on lower deck with F (no confusion for the PAX's between these two classes) and on the upper deck J and PE.
With 332 seats in one area, it is probably better to have some visual separation with the colours. They could have randomly used the colours throughout all Y cabins but it might have looked like the Gabba.

There were no pictures of the PE cabin in the link, only in the prelaunch press release last year where they looked like a pale purple/red like the "sunset sky over the Nullabor". This is my recollection of them on a QF2 flight.
I can't see them going with chocolate in this area. Maybe the 'chocolate of the mountains' is the headrests of the F seats (or some reference to a Cadbury ad).

One thing I read recently was that the A380 (which is out of sequence with the Airbus codes) got the '8' from the cross section profile of the twin decks. Some useless trivia to add the conversation.

There I was thinking it got the 8 as it was a nice number for its launch customer.

8 is also a lucky number in certain asian cultures, which was considered helpful.

I have heard (although given that the A350 wasn't even being considered at the time) that Airbus thought that an A360 would have been a marketing bonanza for Boeing.

Of course, I could be mistooken.

Re: Qanas A380-01 Pictures

I would guess too many long haul pax still don't drink enough water/juice to keep themselves hydrated. Perhaps with the bar there this will encourage people to get up more to get a drink, and go for a walk which also helps to prevent things like DVT.
:p

Except that only aisle seat pasengers can freely get up and move

How very Qantas  Say no more.

It does make me laugh how people are criticising the colour of the exterior - it hasn't been painted yet !!

<G> "Severe bashing"? Yep.
I have to agree with planet Rupert on this one. I have never seen such a long thread on a.net in such violent agreement. I love good industrial design more than the next guy, but SQ raised the bar and QF dropped the ball on this one.
Of course, when reality sets in, I'll be happy for the extra 2cm in seat width in Y and the self serve bar. Seat colour be damned.
<thinks>
Of course, if DJ's V-Aust is any good (and flies to SFO), I'll happily swap to a 777 for the 14 hours or so.
What's that? The sweet song of competition on the Pacific?
<dream off>OK, off to bed for me, I've been up for too long today...

mt

Forget the interior design, those Y seats look stylish and serviceable, but look as hard as a rock. No sure how comfy they will be after 14hrs.

EDIT

And no moveable arm rest, so when the loading is light, no more lying across 3-4 seats...
