Credit Card Offers Bankwest Qantas World: 100,000 bonus Qantas Points (min. spend $35K)

Did anyone see that the world MC is now the below - or was it always $35k in 5 months 'AND' keep your card open for 15 months? I'm questioning the 15 months part, which I thought only applied for the Platinum.

When you spend $35,000 on eligible purchases within the first five months and keep your card open for 15 months and must not have previously held a Bankwest Qantas Mastercard in the last 24 months. Other fees and T&C’s apply.*

Yeah, saw it buried in the terms and conditions a while back, completely killed it for me. Funnily enough I could actually hit the sub due to a well timed ato / HECS payment I had planned, instead I’m just going to go for the citi prestige.

Is the Bankwest statement period (approx) activation date, or a (approx) fixed date for all customers (e.g. end of month)?

Mine seem to fall between 14-17th. My first statement was for 3 days.

Points accrue for the first two statements and are then paid on the 6th of the month that follows your second statement and monthly on the 6th from there on in.

I can’t wait for my 5th month to be up so I never have to deal with their stupid systems again.

Thanks! So you went for the World despite all the cough (and the poor value bonus offer)? I'm stuck in a run-out-of-churn-options scenario, with just Bankwest remaining as an option. I hate the 5mths-of-massive-spend and the tiny number of points, but as the next best option is the Platinum with a pissy 0.6pt earn...

Nah I went with the platinum but I imagine it would be the exact same process for the world.

In my Bankwest application (approved and card issued and active now), it asked next to existing cards with other banks whether I intended to retain or close those cards. For one of them I indicated I intended to close it. Does anyone know if Bankwest actually check if I have done that?

I do intend closing it, but want ideally to retain it for a few months. Bankwest sent a default letter a week after the Bankwest card was activated saying "this is a reminder that as an agreed part of your card contract ... you are required to close the following card".

I got a similar letter too (albeit for the Qantas Platnium) and just ignored it. Nothing happened/still received my bonus points.

Anyone been brave enough to go for the world card yet?
That's me! I had run out of churning options and had - unusually - some large spending coming up, so decided to accept the outrageously high bonus qualification requirement. This might be a keeper card in the end, so it seemed worth doing. One month into it...

This one seems like a pretty good card to pair with the Amex Ultimate after the October changes. 1pt / dollar up to $5k and no fees on international spend.

Only once we know what changes Bankwest is going to make (if any), given I don't think anything has been announced yet (unlike the major banks).

Seems highly unlikely these bonuses will stay as is.

Still, the 80k one looks tempting as one to hang onto before the end of September. Only 20k points difference and much less onerous requirement. Lower credit limit too is better!

The changes just dropped into my inbox:

Changes to your credit card.

From 1 October 2026, we’re making changes to select Bankwest credit cards. This email explains the changes that may affect you.
Changes to the points you earn

From 1 October 2026, eligible purchases on select credit cards will earn points at a new rate.

Bankwest Qantas World Mastercard

Earn 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent on eligible purchases up to $3,000 each month
Then earn 0.20 Qantas Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases above $3,000 each month.

Changes to complimentary credit card insurance

If you have an eligible Bankwest Platinum or World Mastercard, you may have complimentary credit card insurance as part of your card.

From 1 October 2026, we're changing our insurance provider and updating the complimentary insurance available with eligible credit cards.

New insurance provider

The Contract of Insurance (Group Policy) between Commonwealth Bank of Australia (including its division, Bankwest) and Zurich Australian Insurance Limited ABN 13 000 296 640, AFS License Number 232507 is terminating. Insurance arranged on and after 1 October 2026 will not be issued under this Group Policy.

From this date your card insurances will be provided by Cover Genius Pty Ltd (ABN 43 159 983 598), AFS Licence No. 490058, and underwritten by Allied World Assurance Company Ltd (ABN 54 163 304 907).

We may share relevant personal information such as name, date of birth and email address (including information about additional cardholders), with Cover Genius and Allied World for these purposes. For more information, see the Bankwest Privacy Statement.

Changes to cover

The following travel insurance benefits will be added:

Overseas funeral, cremation and body repatriation expenses
Baggage delay expenses.

The following complimentary insurance benefits will no longer be available:

Accidental Death
Extended Warranty
Purchase Protection
Price Guarantee
Transit Accident
Interstate Flight Inconvenience.

Overseas Travel

The insurance policy that applies depends on when your trip begins.

If you depart Australia before 1 October 2026, your trip will be covered under the current policy, provided you meet the eligibility requirements.

If you depart Australia on or after 1 October 2026, the new policy will apply.

If you have purchased upgraded travel insurance before 1 October 2026 for travel departing after 1 October 2026, your trip remains covered through Cover-More.

1 point per $5 is laughable. But the card is still good value otherwise. Looks like the points game is finally coming to an end.
It would only be our backup card from Amex anyway so most months would be within the $3k limit and getting at least some points overseas is good too.
