I've got a pair of Gold and a single Silver that I don't use. Anyone know if these are worth anything on eBay? Anyone here want them?

Isn't the chip embedded in the tag linked to your own FF account - rendering the tags useless for anyone else?

Regards,

BD

No.

The tags can be used by anyone - they are only linked to a booking once activated at check in/bag drop. Once delivered at the other end they again lose connection to the booking.

So, if I understand this correctly, I can give my new tags to my wife for those occasions when she flys with me. Having said that when I am doing an overseas leg, you almost always go through the counter staff - when they manually check your bags in anyway.

I had one fellow at Heathrow BA ask me what the tags were for, he seemed alarmed at the thought it might be one more way machines were replacing people.

correct..see above also. They are NOT linked to you. They only get activated and associated with a booking when checking in baggage (by whatever method).
They are "useful" on domestic routes only. From my reading here and personal experience they are of no use internationally (insert retort about drink coasters here).

I use "useful" advisedly above because if you look around AFF enough you will find many questions about their worth especially in relation to priority luggage at particular airports

I thought QF were in the middle of a trial with BA at LHR for the use of Q Bag Tags internationally?

cool. didn't know that. Thanks. :)
LOL I wonder how it's going given that they are getting on so well lately ;)

Newk, thanks for the update.

Re your final comment, this begs another question I have been wanting to ask. Qantas tags or not, my bags take around 25-30 minutes to appear on the carousel. My recent bout of travel both domestically and overseas has seen me start to time how long the luggage takes to "arrive" on the carousel. Am I the only one?

Rono, yeah it's an issue. I'll look around and see if I can find a link to a thread or two. There is a body of thought that you are better off, at least at some ports, with the paper priority tag

Don't use the q tags. Only paper tags. No difference for me in waiting at the carousel. I'm WP1. Domestic or international.

They only work at Australian domestic airports. Think of them as a blank white board, when you check in your baggage, the whiteboard gets erased and your trip information is written to it.

For the OP, I sold a pair of Bronze on eBay for $26 and a pair of Silver for $40. Gold should fetch around $50-$60.

Ashleyn, I am intrigued by your comments.
Why should the different level of tags be worth different amounts??

regards

Rono

Harder to get hold of, plus look 'more prestgious'

So if the original holder's "benefits" don't transfer to the new user of the tags, surely we aren't saying people are paying for pose value only??

Q-Tags, useless for:

a) Carry on bags, or
b) International travel

That said I am guilty on both counts above.

Either, people are paying for pose value, or the buyers don't realise the benefits don't come across.....

I'd say there are equally as many that don't know the benefits don't transfer, as there are that know they don't transfer and want to look like they're someone... I know CL tags fetch around the ~$500 mark last I looked. If I had that kind of disposable income I'd but them!
