Hi
Hoping someone might be able to share an experience or two here to let me know if I am worrying about nothing or if I should continue to HUACA.
I have an AA LAX-SYD Business classic award booking for early September. I made this booking earlier in the year. On 28 June, I made a date change as new availability opened. This change was ticketed without incident - I received an updated iternary with a new ticket number. A 5000 point change fee was also deducted from my account. When I went to MMB on AA.com, the ticket issue date was showing as 28 June.
I went to change this trip early this week again as award availability opened up. I rang up and made the change. After a couple of days, I had not received an updated ticket or ticket number, the ticket still showed as being issued on 28 June on AA.com and, perhaps most tellingly, the 5000 point change fee had not come out of my account.
I rang up to confirm these points and was told that it had been ticketed and that he would send me the updated ticket. The 'updated' ticket I received has the same ticket number as the one issued on 28 June.
Today, I rang up again and despite the ticket number remaining the same, I was assured it had been ticketed and that it has been issued into the old ticket number. When I asked about the change fee not being taken out, I was told that "the system would not let us charge it as you are premium." Whether this is related to status or the cabin booked is not clear. I asked if this was a new thing as if that is the case, I have been charged close to 50000 points in change fees in the past few years errenously. She said it was not a new thing.
My questions would be:
1. Is it possible to re-issue a ticket change into an existing ticket number? In the dozens of flight changes I have made across airlines (even in a simple schedule or flight change), I have never maintained the same ticket number when changes have been made.
2. Can classic award changes be made without fees? (Notably, for a SG who only books classic awards in Business - if this is the case, this is a big deal to me and I'm sure to many others)
3. Given these concerns, should I continue to HUACA (and ask for a supervisor) or accept the word of those two agents?
Thanks for any assistance!
