Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Well, I think because of Brexit the UK was able to get the vaccination done very efficiently.
I suspect you are right in saying it happened quicker, though also believe that the UK would have struck out and done its own thing anyway as some other EU countries have done. But probably a month or two ahead of the game being out of the EU (disclaimer: not a political post or point as for what it's worth, I voted remain).

And despite this poll it was close to 100% condemnation of the government for temporarily banning flights from India. So how do 36% 'support cuts' yet 100% get outraged when the cuts are made? 🤷‍♂️ 😷
You must have asked a humdinger of a question to get that result. ;)

Maybe look at the question?

The question can be reasonable but reporting can be done to portray the results with a particular bent.

The headline said "One-Third of Voters Back Cuts", so @Pushka put up the implication that 66% didn't.

I looked closer, adding 19% to 36% to get 55%.

The headline could have been "One-Third of Voters Back Building More Qarantine Camp Places" - but I guess the writer did not want it portrayed in that manner.
Or it could have been "More people {just!} want supervised quarantine places increased than decreased" or something a bit more snappy. As you say, the headline is written to suit the narrative the writer is looking to push.

Interesting today it was released where the last 13 cases in Quarantine testing positive in SA had departed from. There has been much condemnation of the Repat flights from India. But just one of those cases was from India. 1/3 came from Liberia!

The repatriation flights from India do have a more stringent regime in place though for pre-departure testing.

Just checked the latest NSW report, it shows that cases from India peaked in April, the pause and improved pre-departure testing have reduced volumes. Highest number cases in first week of June was actually Iran.

USA still leading over all but only 7 cases in front of India, it is possible India will over take the USA when the next SYD India repatriation flight lands later this month.

Oh yes. But tell that to the doona brigade wanting all India flights banned.

Sydney will bear the brunt of all US flights though.

Of course, but you can see their numbers are declining as their vaccination rate improves, although not as much as the UK from which there have been no positives since March.

But i speak to a lot of ordinary folk in my work and their view was the direct opposite.
Many just believe what the news tells them.

As soon as they start showing bars and streets in mainland Europe buzzing, sheep here will want to go on holiday again and thus the wave of opinion will change.

People I know seem to think that those in Europe, UK, US spent the past 12 months dying in the streets. Apart from places where healthcare standards have always been poor, this simply has not happened. I wish I was exaggerating this, but this is what anyone who wants to behave appropriately relative to the risk is up against.

But as I work in a public hospital most of them couldn't give a fig what people in the bars and streets of Europe are doing.

I do not see Australia opening in any meaningful way for its citizens in either direction for years

Trade Minister Dan Tehan says the federal government is negotiating with Singapore about a potential travel bubble with Australia, but is in “no rush to open the borders” to international travel.
His comments came after Prime Minister Scott Morrison told The Weekend Australian the government would spend the next six months monitoring the spread of new COVID-19 variants overseas, and the effectiveness of vaccines before making a decision on reopening international borders, again refusing to give an inoculation rate that would trigger reopenings.

Mr Morrison said identifying people who had been fully vaccinated was key to the creation of further travel bubbles - following Australia’s first travel bubble, with New Zealand - with Singapore and potentially Japan and South Korea to follow.

He also told The Australian that foreign students who had been fully vaccinated could be used to trial a new traffic light system for international arrivals.

Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said while any decision about a bubble would need to go before National Cabinet he warned Singapore was still struggling with the Delta variant and would need to drive down case numbers.

“We don’t want a single case imported into Australia,” Professor Sutton said.

A few posts upthread I sort of tongue in cheek said it will be 5 years before our international borders open....it seems not an unreasonable prediction atm. :(

This is over a month old, but interesting nonetheless to consider how there could be a bubble Aus-Sing, if there are Sing-US, Sing-somewhere else, bubbles.

Yes I was also wondering if it would be possible to travel from bubble to bubble. No doubt it would be breaking some Australian law but I am beyond caring.

It's kind of already come up talking about flying to NZ. NZ won't stop you flying elsewhere say a few days later but you could have problems when flying back to Australia especially if not away for very long.
