Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

There goes any chance of a NZ travel bubble anytime soon 😢

‘Elimination is not sustainable’..... ah duh mate.

It’s also not possible as NZ has proved itself, so I’m not sure why two countries like NZ and AU with suppression in place couldn’t figure a bubble out. Honestly....

On the other hand, NZ doesn't hold its citizens captive like Australia is currently doing.

Just to show how difficult it is getting a seat into Australia, I looked at ExpertFlyer for flights out of SIN to SYD/BNE/ADL on SQ.

Sydney: First available business class (full fare Z class) seat - 9th November, first available (full Y) economy seat - 14 December
Brisbane: First available business class (full fare Z class) seat - 6th November, first available (full Y) economy seat - 26 December
Adelaide: First available business class (full fare Z class) seat - 12the October (just one seat, then not until early Nov) November, first available (full Y) economy seat - 12 November (2 seats), but more consistent availability (9 seats or more) on 26 November and 11 December.

Nephew supposed to fly back from France for Christmas around early Dec so he can quarantine and be out in time. Not looking great. Work will pay but still.

To ADL? That might be the best place to come into.

Silkair have business and economy from SIN into CNS and DRW early December, but I suspect (given that at the moment neither port is taking international quarantine arrivals) that they are likely to be cancelled.

I think he flew out SQ last month from Adelaide.

It’s a horrific mess with the caps still in place at such low levels. We have many friends stuck in Europe and trying to get back, multiple flights cancelled, airlines not refunding quickly, only premium options months in advance....

We need a better solution, and fast.

Europe and other locations taking off again in cases, or at least not coming down (ie USA), so international travel is going to remain problematic for some time yet.

Yes, but it is unscientific that the measures intended to protect public health do not make a distinction between New Zealand and US/Europe!

Hi Guys. So glad I found this forum !

I have a fiance in Vietnam who I last saw in February before the borders came crashing down. Since then, I have been pining for news about international borders daily.

The uncertainty of borders being closed and not opening is slowly killing me inside. I even had to increase my anti depressant medication (yes, I have a mental health condition).

There just seems no end to this and it seems that Australia is not learning to live with this virus like other countries. So the international borders can never get open as other countries have cases and we do not (two different approaches).

Will SQ pull out of ADL or just partner with an existing lounge provider?
ADL SQ lounge was never re-opening. It was closed permanently at the end of April and the area was returned to the Airport who have since demolished it as part of renovations.
As part of the ADL upgrade a new Premium common user lounge area is being built and will be located after passport and screening. Due to open next year and with severely decreased airport traffic everything is on schedule

Do you think based on the reduced traffic, the lounge will actually finish being built?

Work was happening generally in the airport when we were there last month. Adelaide desperately needs something after border control as the current set up (now nothing and never anything for Qantas, Qatar, Emirates, MH etc) was a disgrace

Hi and welcome to AFF!

Take heart... it's not as bad as the media are making out!

Vaccines are in development. So are treatments, cures and other preventative measures. We should have an idea how all of these work, whether alone or in combination, within the next few months (roll out may take a month or two after that). It's also alleged that the strain of covid is becoming less virulent over time. So potentially more infections, but better outcomes.

Once we have a vaccine or other treatments, we will be able to travel, even to countries that may not yet have a vaccine. So borders will open, especially for countries like Australia with a small number of cases and active management.

The grass isn't always greener... other countries may appear to be 'getting on with it', but as we have seen from England, they are likely going back into some sort of lockdown.

It may have seemed like a long time, but the end is in sight!

Many family members have been kept separated, even in Australia so just being in the same country doesn't help much currently. There are many family members separated just in this forum so you have lots of company. The only reassurance is that Vietnam has done amazingly well. But we now have to learn to live with the virus which means some kind of normal but careful resumption.
