Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

It's not just the countries that need to ditch pre-flight testing. As a fully vaxxed person I would not need a negative test to enter Turkey. Turkey will accept either a vax cert or a negative test. But SQ requires the test just to transit SIN for a few hours even without leaving the airport. And I had to use SQ because I had some 75k expiring in April (that may have been extended or not).
At least it's a RAT and can be done 48 hours before travel.

The ABC has published a list of international tourists and revenue: International tourists will soon be touching down in Australia. Here's where they'll come from

They’re also considering the complications for tourists - should they come - on getting home. Chinese tourists will have to quarantine for at least 14 days for example (I’ve heard longer in some cities), at their own expense.

Will anyone with the big $$ actually come?
I would have thought it was easiest for those with the big $$, not so much the salaried/wages workforce.

Isn't Chinese 'quarantine' (other than for very top CCP members) egalitarian?

Everyone gets the same quarantine treatment & food - which is why only a fraction of the normal 9,000+ IOC officials from around the world went to the Winter Olympics.

Chinese tourist numbers wont recover except for international students (who may also do some tourism whilst here), the ad gurus will need to get better at marketing Australia elsewhere.

Once NZ remove their quarantine requirements, no reason we should see NZ recover.

With Australian $ being lower and no onerous re-entry requirements for US citizens to return home, no reason we wont see US numbers bounce back.

UK should bounce back relatively quickly too, especially once any covid disruption risk of transiting through Asia and ME is removed.

Disappointing that QF has cut SYD-HNL for all of Feb/March. Obviously demand just isn’t there yet

I think highlights that people are prioritizing visiting friends / relatives over holiday destinations and saving pure holidays for domestic travel for the moment. QF has acknowledged it.

saving pure holidays for domestic travel for the moment.

Except that Fiji route seems to be attracting lots of holidays makers, of course much shorter flights and much cheaper destination than HNL. Fiji was popular over xmas and looks to have strong Easter bookings given the hotel process jumped up over the weekend for that period as demand has increased.

I tend to agree for long-haul people are prioritizing family reunions during this low season, but seems like plenty of demand for northern hemisphere holidays come our winter.

Interesting. Dan Andrews is going to require international tourists to be triple vaccinated at the same time as Victorians will need to be triple vaccinated. Though how well this resolve holds up if NSW accepts those with just two doses and people go to NSW rather than VIC will remain to be seen.

Politicians just can't let go

Dan can’t stop them coming in but it just would mean they wouldn’t be able to enter hospitality venues etc. Seems like restrictions are going to be around for some time and tourists may choose to go elsewhere

The pre-departure test will stop a return to normal tourism. Given the cost of travel to Australia, people won’t risk it. Then there’s the issue of a transit country needing one… hopefully it’ll become a thing of the past in the coming months.

On the plus side, at least testing is fairly easy in most places now. I’ve just done my PCR for return from South Africa. 500ZAR ($45) at a drive through and was out in 10 mins. RAT was about $25 but the Singaporeans aren’t happy with it.

We will now be the most open country in the world. Hope it works out...

But who cares about a few more over-60's dying an unpleasant death?

We won’t be the most open country in the world. Not by a long margin. But that aside, how on earth does the arrival of vaccinated foreign tourists lead to the “unpleasant death” of over-60s? Are you talking about potential importation of criminals? Or online scammers?

I still have an Australian passport, so they'll have to let me in

Yes, but surely that's a good thing right now.

As an aside, I am taking baby steps to overcome my Covid-aversion concerns, in taking a trip to OOL next month. If this is uneventful, I'll look at booking a trip to LAX later in the year (don't forget I'm UA 2MM and lifetime Plat, amongst other things).

But, I'm really taking a huge risk in attending my son's wedding in a couple of weeks. If I survive, I'll be on my way to Qld...

I’ve read previously NSW & VIC are pushing for triple vac as definition as fully vaccinated.

Difference appears to be NSW does not care as much about fully vaccinated check ins to access venues.

Can’t see VIC Government imposing lower requirements for overseas visitors then locals so really all Andrews is saying is once ATGI changes definition then that will apply to everyone.

Whether VIC Government should have vaccinated rules or not to access venues is the key question not that overseas visitors should have different rules then locals at least that’s my reading.

Apparently the main topic on the agenda at tomorrow’s Nat Cab.
If the Feds backflip and make 3 doses a requisite to enter Australia they may aswell wind up tourism on the spot.

Why is it a good thing? Doesn’t impact you no doubt.

I’m fairly sure you’ll survive your sons wedding 🙄. Don’t have the fish.

Why don't we just match the EU. Would be simplest for everyone

That's not possible because the EU countries don't even follow the EU.

I think fully jabbed need to be allowed to travel freely with no testing. Until testing and quarantine are still lingering, travel will never come back to anywhere near what it was.
