SA. Saw on the news tonight they are going to start accepting international student arrivals soon. QLD/WA have no plans yet.
Will the Feds let SA accept international students before significantly increasing the number of Australians they allow to fly home from overseas?

A few of us have alluded to big events going to NSW if border restrictions in VIC don't ease soon - and I saw this - I wonder if this had some effect on the quicker than expected border change for VIC:

Doesn't matter either way - it's just great it happened :)

SA already is but on the quiet. I overhead a student from Vietnam fresh out of a med hotel, in the bank the other day, setting up a student account. All he had was his Aus student visa......

See my post...

The SA Unis, especially one of them, has a lot of say. I expect home quarantine for a bit then no quarantine with testing etc.

Qantas bringing forward:

  • SIN from end November
  • NAN from early December
  • JNB from early January
  • HKT/BKK from mid-January

Alan Joyce says QF/JQ is also in discussions with the Indonesian government about bringing forward quarantine-free travel to Bali for vaccinated Australians by Christmas.

Qantas is also launching SYD-DRW-DEL flights (see Qantas to fly Sydney-Darwin-Delhi)

Just heard Joyce say they are bringing forward A380's to service. They had planned to keep them in the desert until 2023! Happy days.

Scomo just said the Victorian and Tasmanian premiers will be making announcements later today about international travel.

Also said that the government is in discussions with the Singaporean government about quarantine-free travel to/from Singapore with a further announcement to come in the next week or two.

Ah the "in discussions" bit. They've been "in discussions" with Singapore for 12+ months. For those old enough and watched Mr Squiggle when they were younger, I feel like blackboard ... "Hurry Up" (said with a gruff voice) ...

Pure selfishness though. We're due to return to SIN on 31 Oct. Make life easier if it were quarantine free, or at least they had an announcement on it, we're sort of hanging on an keep on pushing our return date JIC ... 🤣

So, another announcement about the announcement?

Tasmania apparently announcing something on international flights today as a part of their road map presentation.

So their 1 flight (to AKL) will be allowed back? Is that predicted?

Well I'd say they had discussion sometime ago, then left those discussions dormant for a while, then just recently re-engaged those discussion.
Haven't been continual for 12 months.

I expect QF would have draft plans for MEL ready to finalise soon after the detail of the announcement is released.

Maybe dreaming of a bit much, but if MEL and SYD are open maybe a DSC offer could come or double points. QF wants people to get back flying ASAP, so in the short term providing more encouragement than needed for people to book wouldn't be a bad thing.

In the press conference this morning, Joyce said demand for flights has been off the charts. They've never had more points redemptions in the company's history. Not sure they need to stimulate demand at the moment. I think that will change next year as the euphoria dissipates and the pent-up demand clears.

What do the knowledgeable folks on here think- is it too risky still to book flights to Singapore over Christmas? I am really really tempted to make a move before prices go up... Any ideas/ thoughts?
