Points earned when upgraded

I purchased a full economy fare for a PER-SYD sector travelled last week. I used two upgrade credits for an ODU to business class.

For some reason when the entry appeared in my FF activity online, it had zero points. I phoned up the FF line and they advised that it would be fixed. Today a new line has appeared on my activity statement showing 3,062 points and 40 SC's - it does not break this down into base points, cabin bonus, etc.

While the points awarded are correct for the economy fare that I purchased, why don't I earn business class points and SC's?

If you read the FF program terms and conditions you will find that the FF points and SCs are paid based on the fare purchased and not on the cabin travelled.

Peter I have always taken that the purchased fare is what you earn points on, so I checked the T&C and there it is...sorry

(e) Points and Status Credits will be earned only for the class of service that has been purchased, rather than the upgraded class of travel;

Thanks guys. I have to admit that I'm lazy when it comes to reading T's & C's, and I don't fly on QF enough these days to be familiar with the rules. :oops:

This is a common problem with domestic upgrades which book into U class. U is also the business class award bracket which does not earn any points/SC's per se and often the computers get confused between these upgrades and awards. What it means is the staff arranging your upgrade in PER did not follow standard process. As you found out, it's easily fixed with a 'phone call.

As posted by others, you normally only earn points/SC's for the class of travel purchased.

Yes, the person on the FF line said something about the QP person causing this by processing the upgrade incorrectly.

This has happened to me on about 50% of my ODU's, however has always been corrected with a phone call to QFF
