That sounds interesting! What's the biggest debacle and why might platinum and gold merge?
SCs on award flights.

Platinum and Gold will merge because Qantas wants Platinum/Oneworld Emerald status reserved for a small percentage of their elite.

I just cannot see that happening.

Its sad that the old FIFO put-down has emerged again. This to me is simply snobbery against blue collar workers. Ewww! Look at them, they wear work clothes on planes and gosh, don't they drink a lot [ie beer, rather than wine / champagne].

I'd love more FIFOs to be part of AFF so they can describe their experiences with other travellers in the lounge. "Anyone else sick of that high pitched laugh - next time I'm going to complain to the lounge manager"

If anyone is intoxicated or breaking lounge rules - complain and get 'em chucked out. Otherwise no one forces anyone to sit in a lounge.

JASA's are still around, just that the loophole that allowed them to be booked at classic award levels has been fixed. It's hardly a debacle as it encourages you to get rid of a huge points liability for them in a really poor value way.

I agree with juddles though, I can't see QF essentially turning WP into OWS and P1 into OWE. Would make no sense.

Well said RooFlyer. That snobbery is pretty classless. And FWIW the worst behaviour I tend to see in the lounges comes from the corporate types.

And 100% correct. If someone is intoxicated, they shouldn't be there.

Always amusing when those complaining loudly about prejudices unwittingly reveal their own.

To me it seems that someone has an issue of "I'm work for professional firm X, i don't want to be associated with Y".
I've had as many encounter with FIFO workers acting unruly as business workers. (rare in both cases)

Frankly i don't see the issue both demographics fly QF via their companies rather than flying VA and hence they should be rewarded as such.
I mean otherwise sure, how about we kick all the FIFO & Business workers out of the lounges and just keep it for the people who pay out of their own pocket because i don't want to deal with workers. How does that sound? (Sarcasm)
Everyone's Human at the end of the day.

Anyway....
Newly minted WP , Travelling Emirates soon can't wait to see how it goes :)!

A huge points liability that is created by giving away points. It it beyond a joke. I am just biting my tongue hard enough to hold back.

May not make sense now.

Status should be seen as a reward but not when airlines hand out status matches, comp status short of qualifying, double SC offers or even 50% SC offers. Then it's no longer a reward but a lottery and can get people offside.

Yes I have also played the game but it still leaves sour taste in mouth when you see people gifted status.

And you see I have intentionally left out the biggest debacle in history. One of the main reasons you may see Gold/Platinum merging at some point in the near future.

This is why, as P1, I am happy that I don't know of ANY instances of someone being comp'd P1, or requalified it even if a few SC short, or even as one being offered any kind of SC bonus promotion. I like this.

It's akin to the old SQ (I don't know how much they still do this) practive of restricting heavily, or mostly, award tix in their premium cabins (specially Suites) - don't give it away, if you want it, pay for it (basically).

I also note you've updated your LTG status to 116.25% JohnK :D It seemed to be at 100.01% for ages! :) I have to work out what mine is... it's probably similar lol

I have been hanging around in SQ forums, as I plan to fly Suites next year to try them. As far as I can see it is pretty easy to get awards on SQ even in suites. Haven't really come to grips with the SQ award system (and don't intend to - one FF program is enough for my ageing brain), but it doesn't seem any different to anyone else. I think the only way airlines will become restrictive of their premium classes is when the world's economy recovers enough to see those cabins filled with revenue passengers.

My FIFO friend just flew TT (yes, that's TIGER) to get to PER to connect to her work funded QF flights north. yep.... the glamorous life of FIFO.

Another thought on FIFO workers - how do "we"(as in other pax) spot them? they're in their high vis. Now while I don't pay close attention, seems to me most high vis shirts/jackets carry the employers logo/name on them.

Surely incentive for a worker to behave more than an anonymous jerk in a suit - who would you know who they worked for unless you knew them personally or they had some identifying pin, tie or something on them?

I do agree that it is often the "suit and tie" brigade that are worse behaved (at times) in lounges... I've seen some very poor form behaviour - from shouting on their phones, to "DYKWIA" type moments to general selfishness with seating (eg: this lounge is full, but this seat next to me is reserved for my very important laptop bag) and the like.

the whole FIFO thing is a stereotype, just as my above statement about business suit types.. there's a minority that create the impression that creates the issue. Yes, I've seen the zoo post knock off at the PER QP bar and no, it's not a good look at all. Then again, how many of us enjoy a drink after work on a Friday with our mates? I don't condone it but it's not like this kind of thing is not unknown outside of FIFOworld.. and remember some of these guys work bloody hard for a month or more on then finally get to let go... for better or worse. I don't defend the boorish actions of some, but I don't want to condem all fluro vested individuals the same way.

My tiger flying friend would be the one in the corner sipping her white wine and offending nobody.

My platinum status freebies are hard to come by due to the number of FIFO's flying KTA-PER routes..but my brother in law who is a FIFO flying PER_ZNE is the luckiest person I know who has had 6/6 op-ups flying back ZNE-PER. It's getting that he does not like flying up to Newman in economy! lol

At least I got a set of Qantas books delivered a few weeks back for which I was really chuffed:)

WP Here... Has anyone ever gotten any favors or leniency with luggage when it comes to other family members travelling? (And is there any chance I could check her in via the J/F desks? I'm not travelling sadly)
