Pilots attack Joyce over Qantas comments

Those NZ sardine cans are some of the newest in the fleet - they won't get any more than 160 pax twice a day, the demand isn't there.

But the whole 'QF is Sydney-centric' arguement - that is where it makes money. PER and ADL don't make money - if they can run services to INTL destinations from there that make money, they will. They can't afford just to put services on there for the sake of it, they are losing some money at the moment

Many other airlines think it's worth flying out of PER. I think it's a case of chicken and egg: no flights so no-one flies QF. Low numbers so QF reduces services. This has been the case for quite a while now, but with QF showing less interest in its international flights, I don't see any change in the near future.

Given how things have worked out, Joyce is actually correct stating that the grounding has benefited the brand. However, this is more likely due to the government's actions rather Joyce's management.

When the government stepped in when it did, the result was big businesses win, unions lose. If the government didn't do anything for another week, I would imagine the results to be much more favourable to the unions.

IF the government didn't step in then it would have been a lose lose for the government.

Personally, I think the government acted a bit quickly and should have let him stew for a couple of days first.

Given the reduction in fares that I'm experiencing on my most frequent route; if there are more bums on seats I would suggest lower fares are the reason before the grounding. More spin from the [whatever the OP told us not to mention] (and his 33000 employees flying 33 hours on the A330.) sorry  it still cracks me up.

I agree.

Yes... Should've let Joyce sit there with no planes flying for a week... I wonder if he would still have any shareholder support by then. That would've been a good chance for us to find another CEO.

While I don't like unions in the current structure, one of QF's past core competencies was in engineering and maintenance. The fleet was generally quite reliable, and the company had no problem keeping aircrafts flying longer than most other airlines before retirement. This advantage has now been well and truly given away...

Any advantage Qantas (& Ansett) had went with the deregulation of the airlines.

Such maintenance faculties and reliability were financed by the then high airfares the two airline system provided.
