Perth Domestic! What are Qantas' lounge options?

My last trip out of PER, I was sitting near a FIFO whose every second word was 'See you Next Tuesday' he was bare footed with his feet on the opposite seat and then was telling his mate how he screwed a female co worker in the Showers of the Qantas club. Bogan Central!!!

Re: "Island Dining" in the Domestic J lounges: Tips, Timing & Menus

Something along the lines of interstate flights and intra-WA flights? That could work but I am guessing cost involved would be too high.

It's sort of more or less the plan, but can't happen until Virgin relocates to its new terminal, at which time the Qantas group is supposed to spread out into that vacated space.

I've watched this debate in a number of threads for a while now and finally decided to weigh in.

Anecdotal evidence is just that; but as a frequent visitor to the Perth Domestic QP I can say that the only bad language/behaviour I have experienced has been from FIFOs. Others may have different experiences but that is mine.

I also regularly visit the MEL and SYD Business lounges and the atmosphere is very different to PER.

The line Qantas push when I have made comment is that most of the FIFO crowd would have Business Lounge access due to status so there is no point. I agree that creating a "business Lounge" without also setting standards is a waste of time. I am, however, annoyed that the lounge is often rowdy with bad language and feet on chairs/tables.

Perhaps the downstairs part of the QP could be turned into a Business Lounge as well as enforcing better behaviour (for ALL visitors). I'd like to see how those of you who only ever get to see the MEL or SYD Business lounges would react if they were full of people in dirty clothes with feet on tables behaving like they were in a pub.

PER passengers are already disadvantaged by Qantas with no International flights - not providing a Domestic Business lounge for WP/J class travellers is another brush off.

WP1 status will cease at the end of this year (QF - you don't fly where I want to go from PER) along with the occasional invitation to the Perth CL which has been a welcome and relaxing place to be when the QP has been overcrowded.

Hey Red Roo, anything happening in this space?

Have the CL invitations been at the initiation of the lounge guardians, or have they been prompted by you commenting how busy the QP was?

In my experience, as a PER based P1, the worst behaved in the PER QP are those in full business attire. So how is exclusion based on 'dress' going to work for these people (as is the standard opinion around here)?
I was not referring to how one is dressed as being an issue. Re-read my post:
I don't think being dressed 'differently' is the issue ....

Can anyone tell me what the crowds in the Qantas Perth lounge are usually like on a Saturday afternoon?

I've been successful in upgrading Mrs 2905 for her flight back to CBR tomorrow, so now I'm wondering if I should tell her to take advantage of the lounge, or avoid it.

In my experience the lounge is only ridiculously uncomfortable and busy for the morning flights (before 9am), it does get moderately busy through the day and afternoon, but not worse then any other major QP lounge. I'd say it would be fine for a drink and comfy seat.

I would always try the lounge rather than not and it isn't as bad as this thread implies...
It is certainly busy but I haven't noticed the "barefoot, feet on table, offensive language" type behaviour in the QC.
Having said that I now use VA for the PER-MEL trip as J class is much better and the lounge a lot less crowded... No GnTs in the lounge... but the champagne on the flight makes up for it :)

Re: "Island Dining" in the Domestic J lounges: Tips, Timing & Menus

Was walking past the construction for the new J lounge today, had almost forgot about it. Does anyone have any information (or even predictions) on when it is due to open?

Where about is the new lounge?

Taken from the escalator into the current lounge, am real excited & cant wait for it to be open! I'm pretty sure that area used to be offices, then more recently they turned it into more seating area's for pax, real glad they are making good use of the space.

Are you there at the moment? It says 'ask our team for more information', perhaps you could take them up on the offer

Haha, nah took that pic a few weeks ago, will ask next time I'm in there & see if there are any updates.

sure that was a pub down there

Re: "Island Dining" in the Domestic J lounges: Tips, Timing & Menus

Unfortunately I think the space they have selected will be too small. It may help overcrowding in the other lounges however.

Re: "Island Dining" in the Domestic J lounges: Tips, Timing & Menus

QF's press releases mentions here that it will have capacity of 350 pax.

QANTAS ADDS LOUNGE CAPACITY IN PERTH WITH ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEW BUSINESS LOUNGE

This capacity is most likely similar to an elevator capacity rating. Yes you may be able to fit that many into the physical space, but it will not be very comfortable. The area that they are taking over for the J lounge did not look to be any bigger than 350m2 (they are saying 1350m2 however).
