My point exactly. Perth is getting beyond a joke. Perhaps time to shift this to a new thread and start putting pressure on Qantas to improve/ or create a J lounge?:)

Fair enough about creating a Business lounge in PER but do you think the alcohol policy will be different in the new lounge? Why?

The same people now using the Qantas lounge will be using the Business lounge. If they cannot be trusted to behave in the Qantas lounge nothing is going to change by creating a Business lounge.

In saying that PER is a joke, the Red-eye flights must be getting quieter.

I have noticed that when travelling on the Red-eyes within the last 12 months, the QP has been a lot quieter compared to previous years.

I don't have enough experience with the PER lounge but I do fly to boganland on weekly basis (same as you JohnK) and I must say I don't recall any recent misbehaviour by pax in the J lounge due to intoxication.
I have to wonder if Perth pax are so much worse that they can't be trusted to behave in a J lounge (assuming they would have one).

It must be worse in PER as both airlines have a strict alcohol policy in PER lounges.

I cannot see how creating a Business lounge is going to change the situation. Or is it? Those same people the restrictions are in place for are mainly QF Platinum.

Drawing a long bow without full knowledge there John...Not all FIFO's get to Platinum..(although they aren't always the problem) and not all people who fly through Perth are bigger drunks than the rest of Australia. I think that the better surrounds make for better behaviour..that's human nature.

Wasn't trying to be nasty.

There has to be a reason why this policy exists in PER lounges? Have both airlines got it wrong?

Re: "Island Dining" in the Domestic J lounges: Tips, Timing & Menus

Yep they have, it should be staff who police the alcohol policy, rather than 99% of members being disadvantaged and treated as though we all have alcohol problem!

A separate regional terminal would help the situation. Perhaps not entirely, but it would help.

Something along the lines of interstate flights and intra-WA flights? That could work but I am guessing cost involved would be too high.

Re: "Island Dining" in the Domestic J lounges: Tips, Timing & Menus

A separate terminal would be annoying. A lot of people (myself included) regularly transit through Perth on the way to/from regional WA and there are often tight connections, which reduce overall trip time.

Also, Just because people look a bit rough on the outside or are wearing work clothes doesn't automatically make them a drunken yobbo

I'm intrigued by this "boganland". I didn't know it was currently possible to fly to western Sydney.

It is called "Bankstown" Airport, but I doubt you could land an A330 or B767 on it

Something does need to change in Perth, even if it were a separate area with a relaxed dress code and then the normal lounge where you dress properly. It also needs expansion. The FIFO revenue must be a significant part of the Qantas business model, and I think that they need to recognise that and look after those regular travellers, in addition to looking after the normal travellers expecting a business class lounge experience. I work offshore FIFO and haven't seen any of my colleagues drunk in the lounge when heading home (not to say it doesn't happen), because most know that if something happens they will probably become unemployed very quickly.

I disagree that a separate 'area' is required for anyone at PER. How fragile must someone be if they cannot stand to be in the same room as someone who is dressed differently......

I don't think being dressed 'differently' is the issue - at various times reported Aggression and frequent course language are indications of a real problemc unfortunately.

If it were not so, there would be no need for uniformed security guards, nor the single drink limit and the wines would be self service like at more eastern QP locations.

I may not be recalling correctly, but the last time I was at the QP in PER, I don't recall the wines not being self served, but I may be incorrect.

In my experience, as a PER based P1, the worst behaved in the PER QP are those in full business attire. So how is exclusion based on 'dress' going to work for these people (as is the standard opinion around here)?
