No sticker for me

. It was well oxidised. The ullage was into the red zone by a whisker but they opened it anyway. It tasted like bad sherry with marzipan notes. It could be safely drunk I was told. They topped it up with the current vintage (2021), for some reason, and recorked it. I had a good chat with them about the process about deciding the wine's condition. It's simply their call but I could imagine a scenario where a disagreement would make for interesting viewing. No such doubt in my case of course.
I did get a shot-sized taste of the 21, for reference, probably because I mentioned that I'd never tried Grange and was now unlikely to. I've got to say - I was not blown away and even underwhelmed. There's obviously a lot of subjection and, more importantly, experience involved here. I was reminded several times in our chat about how the 21 is a 100point year, but I just didn't swoon. I could easily have the same reaction or level of joy to a weekend quaffer at 1/50th of the price but because this was Grange that doesn't seem to sit right. I was
supposed to
love it, right?
Anyway, very interesting thing to do and I'm still sad that what I knew has been confirmed. I'll have an interesting display item if I ever put in a bar. Yep it's that badly oxidised, it wouldn't even be worth making a Boeuf Bourguignon. Here's a pic of the cork.
