Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

Looking for ways to get to Scotland in an OWA booking. Getting close but came across a code in the billing breakdown I can't find anything on. Z5DP. The change associated with the code is almost half of the flight cost so far. Anyone have an idea what it is and if it can be avoided?

With what flights?

I may have found a way to get to the UK with only 1 flight in premium economy and others business. Interesting to see Qantas still hasn't fixed the bug where you can only book 6 flights and get an error on the 7th. Probably a design to force calling to do the booking.

Having trouble trying to add 2 flights to my existing OWA

I'm trying to add IST-MCT-BKK before the BKK-MEL return flight but call centre are saying system is refusing to price it because it thinks I haven't left BKK. BKK-IST is a surface sector. gcmaps says proposed itinerary is 34,095mi.

I tried HUACA a few times this morning (all SA call centre) with same result. Any thoughts if this is a real issue or whether I should keep HUACA?

Think you give the Mascot Work Experience kids a bit too much credit for ingenuity, dude.

Are you stopping over in BKK a second time?

Just to add some closure to my issue. I spent a week calling the call centre trying different variations of my proposed additions. Unfortunately the overseas call centres could not reprice the itinerary.

I reached out to Qantas via FB Messenger explaining my predicament and asked if they could identify the possible cause. After some back and forth comms, they passed the request onto the right area and someone contacted me via email advising there was availability and quoted the taxes and charges. Payment was taken over the phone and the ticket was reissued within 5min of the call ending.
BKK-MCT-TAS and MCT-BKK flights were added to my itinerary, the points stayed at 318k and the 5k change fee was immediately deducted.

Note that comms with Qantas via Messenger isnt instant - it can take 1-2 days to receive a response. Overall it took nearly 2 weeks for my issue to be resolved via Messenger. It worked in this instance because there is alot of WY availability 10 months out and there isnt a huge demand.

This will probably be my last OWA. I was lucky I had a complete itinerary and just wanted to tack on a few extra flights to maximise the award. Compared to my last OWA in 2024, the lack of awards released on a reliable schedule makes it difficult to plan. Back then, JL seats were released 360 days out. Now its really only AY and MH.

Fully agree, it has become much too hard. Have done 4 since 2015 including 2 doubles (Europe then USA and Europe then Europe again).

Going forward, will use up my ever decreasing points horde on domestic flights both in Aust. and also when travelling internally around the America's and Europe. Long haul will still be in J but definitely BFOD which will most likely NOT be Qantas.

Still, it has been a good ride!!
