Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

Thank you for your quick response.

Well through the AA app there is an option for premium economy travel to replace my existing SFO-LIS. But I assumed if I chose to change as opposed to AA or Qantas themselves it is would invalidate the previous ticketing.
AA’s systems are likely looking at the immediate solution, as I mentioned above.

The app offering an alternative is fine, but you need to make sure the rest of the ticket stays in tact and has been reissued correctly.

You can do this after accepting the new flight, at the airport if you have time (and the airline has time given their potential workload at the moment) and certainly on arrival at LIS.

Once the flight is replaced you can always check with an airport agent for a business class seat. however, if you can find yourself an alternative business class seat now, no harm in contacting AA to see if they can get you on it. Or again at the airport.

Although I suspect once you accept the flight, the ticket will now show premium economy, so it might be hard to change back.

Depends how urgently you need to be in LIS, and it’s only a short flight. premium economy might be as good as it gets.

It might also be worthwhile sending an email to [email protected] .
According to them (from a recent email from them), “This inbox is dedicated to customers who hold a confirmed Classic Flight Reward booking on a partner airline flight, which has been cancelled or had a schedule change.”

It’s an option, but unless there’s alternative award space, Qantas isn’t going to be able to open it.

I would however get that email address to check that the ticket is still valid after AA makes the change.

The AA offered option is probably the best given the OP’s time pressures.

Thank you, I will definitely try at the airport and see if they upgrade my seat to business (though I doubt it).

I have sent this email and also got off the phone with someone who said it is currently being reticked and should be done within a few hours.

Really appreciate the help everyone!

I hope it is with AA and not quite QF. QF would have limited capacity to fix it for you unless they liase with AA. AA should have all the rebooking options open to them including putting you on alternate partner flights, flights to other airports etc that aren't award.

Also it helps to do your own research and if you present them with a reasonable option sometimes they'll then just book you on it as long as its available to be booked (seats available).

I think just to manage expectations @sojourningtemporarily … now you’ve voluntarily accepted this downgrade and it’s been re-ticketed, that’s your class of travel.

I’ve never heard of anyone being upgraded by arguing their underlying fare basis entitles them to a higher class. Ticketed fare class is how you’ll be treated. Particularly with airlines in the USA. Displaced pax due to IRROPS who are ticketed in premium cabins are often unable to secure premium seats while elites ticketed in economy get upgraded.

I'm so sorry if this has been covered, a search didn't show anything.

I'm trying to do the impossible - book PE/Bus rewards flights to europe for August. Is there a reason why all Finnair PE come up as a possibility in the multisearch (inevitably with some short leg being economy) but isn't clickable to be added to the itinerary?
YET all the economy options work just fine.

I'm far from a novice at this but this is a first...
Am I just going to have to call them? 🙃

(Currently a QF silver, have enough points)

Thanks

Sometimes theres phantom availability.

Having just done this exact search. Ill say if you want economy there was two on QF1 at Aug 5 last week. The AY stuff aren't even available on AY themselves so that gives you an idea of their actual availability.

Otherwise you can try using 2 /3 stop routes.

Ill just say that i don't think there's many options left and i may have sniped one of the last ones by going SYD -HKG - RUH - LHR.

Theres also potential if you're ok with sri Lanka and india transfer.

The more difficult thing is finding flights back to Asia. When i was searching last week FCO - HKG was available on aug26 for 2 people on Cathay. There were a few other singles seater options.

Some potential NGO - HEL but I'm not sure if its phantom.
There may be some other DXB /RUH/ DoH options available. But i think i covered most of the options in business.
