I have since called again, and they advised that they will need to "re-request" the flights which will require re-ticketing. I'm feeling quite worried and wanted to share my experience and see if anyone has had a similar experience or help me understand what might have happened?

It is completely normal for changes to take up to a week to ticket, especially if it’s months into the future.

Flights can appear in the app and not be confirmed. They can be on request or waitlisted and still appear.

I’ve had that happen to me at the call centre where they added a flight ‘pending approval’ (adding a domestic connector in AU) and that approval never came.

Thank you I am waiting anxiously to hear back from the call centre who advised they will confirm my missing flights re-ticketing once they hear back from the airlines. Can you help me understand what real "confirmation" looks like? I can see it's in my app now after calling the call centre, but my understanding is that they will send me a PDF document?

To be helpful to the OP, the answer to your question is you're looking for an email or PDF that has an e-ticket number.

It also appears you have flights on Malaysian Airlines as you're travelling through KL. In which case, you should ignore the advice of another member saying 'It is completely normal for changes to take up to a week to ticket'.

Malaysian Airlines will remove their flights from an itinerary if it is not ticketed within 1-2 days. If you haven't received an e-ticket number within 24 hours of making the changes, I would be calling back and asking for it to be ticketed.

I have to disagree again.
With some partner airlines (Cathay, Malaysian, Qatar) the flights need to be ticketed within 8-24h or you lose the seat. And sometimes it's impossible to get them back.

Also you won't just lose the changed seat, you'll lose the entire booking.

Definitely do not wait a week.

When making a change over the phone make sure to ask them explicitly to reticket it asap. Say you'll stay on the phone while it happens. Or if they say it'll happen in an hour or two, call back when the email doesn't come through. Also email the Qantas rewards escalation email to further escalate the requirement for ticketing ([email protected])

It's unfortunately an area Qantas is very poor at. So we have to be extra vigilant

Real confirmation comes in the form of an email from Qantas containing an 'E-TICKET NO' starting with 081.

It may be in an attached PDF, or it may be in a plain text email.

This is correct. You should be able to go on the Qantas website to manage your booking and also download it from one of the options on the far left (scroll down a bit, it's called "resend tax invoice"). If the button isn't there, you have a problem and they need to reticket. It's normal for the button to disappear for a few hours while they reticket, but it'll reappear once ticketed. But also open up the pdf to make sure the flights are all correct.

They should email you the pdf e-ticket or sometimes you just get a strange pain text email confirmation from [email protected] and [email protected]

I contacted again via the 131313 number today and the operator mentioned that 2 of my 4 flights (CX and MH) still require confirmation by the airlines. He was unable to give me the E Ticket as he mentioned there is one leg of the flight where I have now been waitlisted.

He advised 5 business days before reaching back. As per your advice, I have now emailed reward ticketing escalations & also now attempted to contact via Facebook.

I checked my qantas app - the flights appear there (with one now saying waitlist) but the website only has 2 of my 4 flights on there.

The other bit that is making me really confused is that my QFF refunded me +318k points. I'm unsure why this is the case but when I tell the operators they don't seem to have much to say other than it'll take time for the points to come through properly?

That's all accurate.

Just remember this is an happening because of Qantas' mistake. They didn't ticket fast enough and you lost several flights.
All their phone team can do is ask Cathay and Malaysian for more seats on the flight. So yes for the moment give it 4 days and wait for them.
But be prepared for the airlines to say no. They didn't make a mistake. Why should they have to open up more reward seats when they could sell them for cash.
If that happens you'll just need to escalate at Qantas and remind them they caused the problem.
To set expectations, they may do absolutely nothing and you should start searching for alternative flights ASAP.

The points thing isn't unusual either. Happened to my mate they refunded all the points. He did all the flying. Then 6 months later they finally took them. Qantas works in mysterious ways

They’ve refunded the 318k because you no longer have a ticket. No ticket = nothing to pay for = return of points.

Unless the airlines comes back confirming the flights you essentially have nothing, even if they appear/don’t appear on the app or website.

There is nothing in the T&Cs (AFAIK) but in practice there appears to be a limit of 2 surface sectors. I've never been able to get QF to ticket a OWA with more than 2.

These are the only published Surface Segment specific rules that I can find:

13.2.3 A Flight Reward Itinerary must contain no more than 16 Segments (including any Surface Segments).
14.4.5 Surface Segments are permitted as part of oneworld Classic Flight Reward Itineraries, but the distance between the disembarkation point and the next embarkation point will be included in the Reward Point zone calculation for that Itinerary.

And there is this general rule:
14.4.4 The following Stopover conditions apply to oneworld Classic Flight Rewards:
(a) up to five free Stopovers are permitted;
(b) more than five Stopovers are not permitted;
(c) only one Stopover is permitted in any one city in the Itinerary; and
(d) only two Transfers may be taken at any one city in the Itinerary.

So that suggests, *theoretically*, that the maximum number of Surface Segments is 5 (given that a Surface Segment will almost always constitute a Stopover), subject to the 16 total Segments constraint, and the total distance constraint.

Of course, none of this takes into account any ‘unwritten rules’, or the unlimited imagination of the various call centre staff…
