Ta for that.I am not sure if this is the thread you were looking for however @madrooster did post something about surcharges and taxes
What are the specific details of the flights that you are taking? The multiple LHR's could be a problem. My first avenue of exploration would be that one or more of the rules of the fare are not being complied with therefore it is not capping the points cost.I must be doing something wrong and hoping some one here can help.
I wanted fine tune plans for a OWA trip and will need some help. But my first question is why is my proposed trip telling me it will cost 412k points under classic points awards in Business Class?
I thought it was meant to max out at 318k?
The trip I put in was
MEL-DOH-AMM-LHR-KEY-LHR-MEL
Not the final route as I want to do a second half before I return to MEL
It may be the LHRsI must be doing something wrong and hoping some one here can help.

In response to #2 you can also use the Japan Airlines toolThanks guys that was the problem, too long a gap so when I changed the second "stop" at LHR to less than 24 hours it worked.
So I have some more questions please before I continue.
1. As I have some choices of airline for some sectors, I just want to get people's feedback on Business class with BA, Qantas, Royal Jordanian, Qatar and Cathay Pacific.
2. I just used the classic rewards multi-flights tool which doesn't really let you easily switch or check dates for each flight. Is there something better?
3. If I am doing a smaller one to Japan and then one major trip out of Melbourne, I know I cannot come back to MEL in the middle but do I need an actual return flight from MEL?
So if the first one was MEL-NRT-SIN and I made my own way back to MEL and then the main trip was MEL- AMM-LHR-etc-MEL , would I only need to buy a one way ticket and count the mileage one way?
Thanks, I'll give that a go.In response to #2 you can also use the Japan Airlines tool
What about if I made the OWA start and finish in SIN?In answer to #3 above:
You need to book as the award ticket
MEL-NRT-SIN-AMM-LHR-etc-MEL
and book a separate ticket SIN-MEL-SIN to cater for the ‘side trip’ to MEL.
Keep in mind that there will be no ’itinerary protection‘ for the separately ticketed flights, so leave enough wiggle room in the timing to cater for delays.
Here is mine which starts in Syd with a "break" in SIN to make it a two trip OWAWhat about if I made the OWA start and finish in SIN?
So
SIN-NRT-MEL-AMM-LHR- etc- MEL
And just stay in Melbourne at the end?
So I just need a one way MEL-SIN to start and don't book the MEL-SIN leg (I think I still count that mileage)
Thanks. Here is mine which starts in Syd with a "break" in SIN to make it a two trip OWA
Yes. There’s plenty of examples in this thread, including at least two of my trips where I have done what you have proposed.Thanks.
So has anyone done it the way I was thinking of?
Thanks. So am I correct that I would have to include the return mileage in the trip?Yes. There’s plenty of examples in this thread, including at least two of my trips where I have done what you have proposed.

Thanks. I knew some of those but it is good to have a more complete idea.Qatar is definitely the pick for J with Cathay second. British Airways may be okay if you get new J but you'll need a mortgage to pay the fuel fines. There's nothing wrong with Royal Jordanian's 787 J hard product but the soft product isn't anything to get excited about. At the end of the day, if you can get QR and/or CX, I'd be very pleased.
