Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

I had some MH flights drop off a OWA due to a schedule change, which I thought only involved ticket revalidation and not reissue (and thus existing reward seats shouldn't have dropped off).

Of course this happens during a period of heavy load for the call centers, and to be fair, I think it's more important for them to deal with the cyclone-affected flights atm.

I've emailed the rewards email to see if they can get MH to re-release those seats. I'm not too worried as I can probably convince QF to release their own award seats in lieu of the dropped MH flights.

The question I have is: does anyone know when a ticket revalidation vs reissue occurs? I swear that previous schedule changes have not resulted in a new e-ticket, but maybe I'm hallucinating...

That aligns with what I was thinking:
When there has been a schedule change to a Qantas operated and marketed flight and the airline designator, routing and booking class is not changing.
There was a schedule change to a QF operated and marked flight, and the airline code, routing, or booking class did not change.

So that should have been a revalidation, which means that flights should not have been at risk of dropping.
 
From 5 Aug 2025 the price of OWA is increasing as follows:
  • Economy: 152,000 pts
  • Premium Economy: 287,000 pts
  • Business: 365,800 pts
  • First: 523,200 pts
So 15% - at least for J (I haven’t bothered calculating the others).

Can someone confirm that, if you manage to book a OW classic reward ticket before the 5th August (for travel after this date), it would still cost the the original number of QFF points?
ie. 132400 for economy, and 318000 for business?

Thats what Qantas has been saying since the announcement and theres nothing to indicate anything else.

That’s definitely how it worked for me at the last devaluation event

Yes, but if you make changes after the new rates come into play, it will likely cause the "fare" to be recalculated at the new rate with additional points and any adjustment in taxes/charges to be to paid.

Qantas have said that ifa booking was changed the original points would continue to apply - but of course the dollars would be recalculated at the prevailing rate of the day,

My experience last time (after many, many changes), was that the points cost didn’t get adjusted (other than the change fee), but the taxes were recalculated at each change as normal.
 
If I have booked 17000 miles worth of trip as part of initial booking beginning from April and ending in June, am I allowed to add additional legs to this trip using the One World class reward program AFTER June? Or should I be completing my entire booking before I start the first leg of my journey? Sorry if this has already been answered. Thanks :)
 
Urgh guess I should find a giant chunk of time and plan another one of these ...... URGHHHHH. I don't wanna. I haven't learned how to use seats.aero. Sulk!

Or should I be completing my entire booking before I start the first leg of my journey? Thanks :)
I don’t think anyone can answer with certainty but my reading is that any booking made before the increase would continue to be priced according to the old matrix, even if it goes from one step in the matrix to the next.

Very happy with the end result, just under 35k miles

I thought this wasn’t within the OWA rules. Will it reject once I go to book or is it allowed in your country of origin? All prelim plans at the moment so don’t want to go down a route that’s not worth it

There's not a separate OWA booking portal. It's just normal bookings and if it qualifies then you'll get capped. If you want to test if its valid, go make a dummy set of booking in economy and if the multi city caps it when it shoukd have definitely gone over then you're all set.

Domestic connections are only blocked if you try and force a same day connection where it isn’t offered automatically in a point-to-point booking.

For example if you plug in MEL-LHR and the system offers you MEL-PER-LHR that’s fine. But if you use multi-city to try and force MEL-PER then PER-LHR it will be blocked.

Adding a 24 hour stopover or next day or whatever is fine. The block only applies to same day.

The above is for regular travellers… those with access to hobart can usually get around the restriction.
