AMEX rejection

To add another data point - I was approved for Plat charge card recently after being rejected in December last year.

In the last 18 months:
- Closed NAB
- Closed Virgin Money
- Approved for AMEX Velocity Platinum (Sep 25)
- Approved Citi / MyCard
- Rejected for AMEX Platinum Charge (Dec 25)
- Rejected by Bank of Melbourne
- Approved NAB
- Approved Westpac
- Approved Bankwest
- Approved for AMEX Platinum Charge (Aug 26)

All cards that were approved in the list above I am still currently holding. I also used passport number to apply this time instead of driver’s licence.

Although I’m not eligible for the sign-up bonus, I did also apply using an OzBargain referral link whereas the application in December was done directly via AMEX website.

Not sure if these any of these things helped with the approval.

Just got instantly approved for the AMEX Platinum.

I last held it just over 2 years ago, currently hold 3 QF cards (Westpac/Bank of Melbourne/Bankwest), and have held several others in the last 12 months...
How is this possible?! :) Don't get me wrong; i am happy for you but really it makes no sense.

I got a no in Jun this year; have top credit rating but had two QF cards. I have closed one since then and planning to reapply this week.

No idea why as my credit rating is excellent (checked with both credit check companies) and never missed a repayment. I did apply it through a referral link so not sure if that caused an issue...

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Honestly, I was expecting to get rejected but wanted to see what income verification they really asked for so I could apply appropriately for MrsFletty, but got approved, which was the preferred outcome.

fwiw one of my mates who has been rejected for a while presumably due to churning just got approved, so maybe AMEX have relaxed this requirement.

Thanks for the info. Will apply this week and see. Usually they are quick right - a day or two?

AMEX is pretty much the only QFF earning card which I'm not in the blackout period for a sign-up bonus, but as I was rejected for no good reason back in 2024, I'm hesitant to attempt again.

However, with the above responses, I'm inclined to try. Although, I really don't want to get rejected again due to whatever their (silly) criteria is.

Well, applied last night.. it took 20-30 secs for it to think and bam.... The difference is that I didn't use a referral like last time.
