Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

Original itinerary was out of Aus via KUL and had 5 Q-suites flights ticketed. QR changed their schedule and one remained which was in the 2nd trip for the year and not during our honeymoon, which was really disappointing. If we can get the positioning flights ticketed, the endless time on hold will be all worth it.

MEL-DOH-CMB-MLE (QR*/QR/UL) | Stop 1, 10 days
MLE-DOH (QR) | Stop 2~ – 4 months
DOH-DFW-CUN (QR*/AA) | Stop 3 – 2 weeks
CUN-AUS (AA) | Stop 4 – 1 week
AUS-DFW-HND-ITM (AA/JL/JL) | Stop 5 – 1 week
NRT-MEL (JL) | End

All J except for CMB-MLE & AUS-DFW both 1-1.5hr flights.
QR* = Q-suites

~Positioning flights (waiting to pay taxes/be ticketed) to/from DOH – on hold now after another ‘drop out’:
DOH-BNE-MEL (QR*/QF)
MEL-DOH (QR*)

Backup flights (ticketed):
DOH-DAC-KUL-MEL (QR/MH/MH)
HND-SYD (JL premium economy) if Japan don’t open up to tourists by October.

There have been a few changes along the way where received refunds then it got re-calculated today and ended up being $1,700pp.

Happy to pay QR taxes when we get Q-suites!

So she can contact platinum valet book us a rtw business classic trip using our points?
Not sure, but I would definitely get her to call and discuss.

FYI QF status only helps with availability for QF metal, which it doesn't appear much of your itinerary will be on. So may just be easier to book through your wife's account.

Well happy to say QF were true to their word and did call me to fix up my booking. And in the end all the missing flights were restored and an e-ticket was issued on the spot!

With less than a week to go, I was pulling my hair out so happy to finally have it all finalised.

Just keep an eye out for last minute cancellations/changes. 🤭
Grrrr!!!

There better not be though I guess I am always prepared for some changes, It's just the cancellations and disappearing flights that are going to do my head in!

So... Hopefully final update.

The Fiji Call Centre operator today , after again not being able to offer the JL flight i could clearly see and book on a seperate ticket - has managed to do an '"Involuntary re route" and change my flight from BNE-HND-LAX to BNE-DOH-LAX.
i specifially mentioned that since it was AA who cancelled a segment, and there are no viable Business options.
She said its done, and is sending it to ticketing, hopefully its smooth sailing from here. even if its the long way around. Hopefully the Q Suites are worth the extra time.

Hopefully LAX is worth it. I believe you can get an identical experience by simply playing Grand Theft Auto.
hahaha yeah, i actually havent flown into LAX, however i have been to LA at stayed with friends. the words from him where 'see that overpass down the road, dont go past that. but this side is fine'
But i also know this friend when i showed up asked if i wanted to see his new AR15, that he bought because it was on sale, and still hadnt taken it to the range yet to try it out

I have only been for a 24 hour layover and went from LAX to Santa Monica and back by bus, so my experience is far from exhaustive. But TBH it felt not that different from Westfield at Doncaster with some driving past chain-link fenced lots that we have seen in almost every Hollywood film since Grease. It's probably a great place to live, but couldn't see much to make me want to visit.

What i will say is this, Yes it is big, perhaps even bigger then most capital cities in Australia in terms of being spread out.
Im not sure where you are from, But in qld. It would be similar to someone saying oh ive been to Brisbane (when they only went to woodridge) and therefor think its all like that, Where as someone who had only been to say Hamilton would have an entirely different perspective.
My friend lives near Long Beach, and i felt fine bar hopping at some ungodly hour down there last time, and i will be spending a bit of time at anaheim this time at a hockey tournament.

What i will say is this...
I grew up in Kent.

I actually had a redemption booked that had almost a week in LAX. I struggled to think of what to do - after visiting Universal Studios there didn't seem to be much. I was honestly looking for side trips, including the possibility of getting a Caesar Salad in Tijuana. In the event, I could not get a visa for the US so I reconfigured/extended my itinerary to have a week in Tunisia and a week in Jordan and return to Australia without crossing the oceans. I feel relieved.

But I know that some people love Los Angeles and it would be a sad world if everyone liked the same thing. I remember from Wayne's World that Napoleon loved San Dimas.

At the risk of getting totally OT - Getty: Resources for Visual Art and Cultural Heritage This was a fantastic visit in LA. Now back to OWA

its a weird thing, personally im not a huge fan of anything too touristy.. Luckily i had my friend who lives there, when i showed up he was all excited saying what do i want to see first, my answer was, im starving, know any good sushi joints, then we went to a big hockey store for a while, where i got semi harrassed by staff who were just curious about 'wow they have ice hockey in australia, whats it like blah blah' i think the next day we found an irish pub to watch the manchester derby at midday.

But back On Topic - So my changes come up in my manage my booking as all the new flights and marked confirmed (even managed to go to RJ and seat select). Does this mean its fully ticketed and sorted? even if i didnt receive the email the Call centre lady said i should receive?

You can check the ticketing on Check My Trip - click on the six character booking reference on one of the new flights and it will take you through to another screen. If that has a ticket number then it is all good, if it has a blank then it has not yet been ticketed. In my experience, it shows on CMT way before Qantas manages its back end to generate PDFs. By way of example, I changed a flight yesterday. CMT shows it has been ticketed and the QF website shows the new flight too (and also shows on the MH website), but when I click on the QF site to send me the itinerary it sends me the old one.

IME the flights showing in Manage Booking under your PNR don't mean much. Your new flights will show there while you are still on the phone to Qantas and definitely haven't been ticketed yet.

My preferred way to check is to go to Manage Booking, and click the 'Email itinerary' link on the left hand menu. If the itinerary/eticket which comes through is your correct, current booking, then it is ticketed.

If not, you need to get back on the phone to Qantas and get it (actually) ticketed ASAP.
