Hmm - guess that means LAX-NRT is out (no A class which I assume is the circle pacific fare) unless I fly JAL:

You may have success contacting AA and asking the agent to request revenue management to release of A inventory for youfor this flight since you are on a paid fare and not an upgrader. I have had success doing so.

Once I get an indication of costs I might speak to my TA and ask them to do that. I wonder if being Plat and this trip taking me to EXP mihgt encourage AA to release the seat :?:

Edit

See I edited this rather than posting again to accelerate the 50K thread timeline ;)

Just a quick question, if I have to go via LAX is there somewhere I can check what miles AA will post? I use mileage monkey but am always warned that the airlines mileage might vary. This trip might put me very close to EXP.

As at today I have 59,376 qpoints. Remaining to post I have a return trip to SIN (half way through that trip) and then potentially SYD-LAX-NRT-HKG-SYD. On my reckong the SYD-SIN flight is 3908 miles each way. The SYD-LAX-NRT-HKG-SYD is 19388 miles which gives me:

Miles Qpoints cough Qpoints
Current 59,376
SYD-SIN 3908 5862 65238
SIN-SYD 3908 5862 71100
SYD-LAX 7502 11253 82353
LAX-NRT 5445 8168 90521
NRT-HKG 1842 2763 93284
HKG-SYD 4599 6899 100183

I wouldnt want to do a mileage run but would be very keen do it if I need just the 500 base miles to make it to EXP - just need to find the cheapest fare possible :/

Well, if you want to give yourself a buffer; you have a couple of thousand miles available on an ACIRC22, so why not do HKG-MEL-SYD to give you another 660 qpoints

Also, do you have any flexibility on your dates; although the 2nd is unavailable in A from LAX-NRT, on the 3rd there is A available for LAX-DFW-NRT (AA802 connecting to AA61) and on the 1st there is availability on the non stop

Juts got the price for the the CircPac. Its A$9347++ compared to A$7758++ Thats probably a stretch. Just need to arrange better flight times out of sydney than I have been advised so far. Which having just checked is not possible.

Argh its all too hard! Proper planning prevents p1ss poor performance is very true in this case!

Looks like i am going to go for the CX bus/first mix. Question - if flying into HKG first and flying out Bus - do I get access to the F lounge (Pier?) or the J lounge (wing?)

Looking at CathayTalk, for a same-day connection, it looks like you can experience F in the wing/pier: FAQ - Cathay Lounges in HK and worldwide.

Look specifically at section 1.5

I have just sent through my change of itinerary so I can leave a little later on the saturday - but now looks like there is J availability on ALL flights so no F and no EXP :( And maybe no F lounge. All in all not a great outcome :(

The EXP status. I think if the fare was within $500 of the CX bus/first mix then I would have done it. As it is its added 3K to the trip - $5k would not be good.

so what is your itinerary and how close to EXP will you be?

Its now SYD-HKG-NRT-HKG-SYD

About 10K qpoints away which is too much for a MR:

Code:
				Miles	Qpoints	cough Qpoints

19/11/2006	SYD	SIN	Bus 3,908 5,862 65,238
22/11/2006	SIN	SYD	Bus 3,908 5,862 71,100

8/12/2006	HKG	SYD	Bus 4,599 6,899 90,423

Its now all been ticketed in First due to lack of availability in Business :D :D :D

Hmm - just waiting now for the fall out...

There is a little part of my mind that is screaming "mileage run...." but I just dont think I could find an itinerary that would do it for very little cost.

It is tantalisingly close; given the value of the eVIPs (going rate 30,000 miles each ) it is a shame to miss it

How long is/are you HKG transits?

Here's some more information about the Wing & Pier lounges.

Note the 'cabanas' & 'day rooms'.

I know - I just cant justify the expense (trip to thailand and saving for a house). Also I cant afford more time away. I think if I could do it for $1000 I might be able to swing it - given that it would earn me effectively a business class return to the UK++

Its just so galling that I had a RTW flight earlier this year that was 100% booked to QF - even one segment of that would have been enough and was reading these forums back then....

a WT+ roundtrip to SIN would do it. It could effectively earn you 2 business returns worth of miles given that you get 8 eVIPs

Dave

Just trying to get a price for that at the moment. Zuji has cheapest economy at $1500 - which is a bit eek !

Just out of interest do the eVIPs being 30K miles count towards lifetime Gold/Plat?

The trading of these tends to be done on the basis of nVIPs being exchanged for an award rather than actual miles being credited

Dave

Confirmed that a MR is not going to be approved. No time to take a trip to europe next year anyway and mrssimongr will be going with me on a rewards trip anyway. I think its time to cut my losses and actuallyl enjoy some time with my wife. If it was 500miles it would be a very different story...

Hmm - just got mt intinerary and found that the HKG-NRT flight is via TPE - so that should be interesting

This may not in fact be the amazing F experience I was expecting - one flight of 1:30 and one flight of 3hours.

Shouldn't complain too much though :)
