Hi All,

This must have been observed/discussed before, but am I right in understanding that I will not earn any SC flying Business Class with Malaysian Airlines MEL-KUL? SC Earn is only available on Y fares?

Seems odd for a Oneworld Member....

Its the way it is, has been like this for a few years.
They want you to fly QF via SIN, so they make it such a way, that if you choose MH J, indeed, you will only earn at QF Y rates of earn.
Au - Malaysia is like that, I think Au - Malaysia - UK is the same, ie, low earn rates.
Au - SIN (QF) and then maybe SIN - HEL with AY, then HEL - LHR in BA/AY, will be earnt at full J rates, if you can afford it.

You do earn points and status credits when flying in business on MH, but only at the discount economy or flexible economy rate. See here.

As above, on AU-KUL,KUL-EU on MH J fares earn flex Y SC's. On other routes (ie non kangaroo competing) you earn more reasonable SC's. it's really stupid and annoying and most definitely not "simpler" or "fairer"

but has been this way for quite some time.

Or do like I did and switch to BAEC.
I've been considering this for a while, ever since moving to London, since I now fly BA and other oneworld airlines much more than QF metal.

And now I see QFF continuing to reduce partner earn rates, there's more reason to switch.

Regretting not doing it over the last 2 years while QF granted status extensions and BA reduced the earn thresholds.

Main reason I didn't switch is my large QFF points balance, but in reality I struggle to redeem QFF points these days, which is why the balance remains high!

My QFF points tally is just under 600k but I’ll transfer those to my wife. She will keep her QFF account and usually does enough to maintain Gold but her flying consists of 90% leisure and is always with me. I’m probably about 70/30 work/leisure and have been crediting all to BAEC since my recent conversion over to them. I guess the only drawback if you call it that is the 4 BA/IB sectors yearly but it may just require the odd status run 🤣

I'm based in London now so I probably average 4 BA sectors a month - no problem there!

To get my 4 QF flights a year I do the annual trip to Aus in QF flights.

Until the end of the month. Then all the other routes get crippled also unless flying full fare business - thanks Qantas.
