Oman Air booking issues

Well, that's good business. Obviously Aussies are prepared to pay these "taxes". But not me.
I think you’ll find most if not all the participants in this thread are in the same boat. Unfortunately, I’ve run out of points to make it to Asia with an awards flight this time (three round trips booked in the 10 months between now and the Oman flight - 2xSQ, 1x QF) so sucked up the cost from Oz this time.

Both business lounges in MCT are new, shiny and wonderful. I tried both on the same day and the food options were very similar, however when push comes to shove, the Oman Air lounge just has the extra sparkle and is less crowded. Neither lounge can be considered slumming it compared to QF J lounges in Australia.
My recent experience regarding boarding on Oman Air is that they do enforce something resembling sense. 4 boarding slots from memory? If you are J then you just need to squeeze around the people waiting for their slot to be called.

Having booked 9 months out, I'm getting a lot of aircraft swaps. Not necessarily a problem, this just for info.

BKK-MCT-LHR then CDG-MCT-BKK

A couple of B787-9 legs have been swapped for a B787-8s and on one leg, I lost my studio. Bugger. Was able to cancel the entire itinerary and get a refund, and book a new one with some different timings that I chose, cheaper as no studio. Net refund.. My TA absorbed the cost of the new ticket while waiting for the refund from WY which only took about a week to arrive :)

Now BKK-MCT a B737. I think I'm stuck with it, although TA investigating. Not happy, Jan.
Yeah, WY seems to be on a downward trajectory. I only hope that the BKK lounge continues to have self-pour champagne.

I've been researching for next year's trip needing to get home from TAS. They now have WY direct to MCT and from there I would need any WY flight to BKK/KUL/SIN but so far the latter 2 are all 737s and BKK is a mixed bag. Mostly 787s but a few 737s. In March I had a 787 BKK-MCT that was swapped for a 737 so I don't trust them anymore. I don't understand why they are pulling 787s off these longer flights?

I’ve got a BKK-MCT coming up in early June, still showing 787-9. I’m nervous!
Late this month, when I'm going, it varies day-to-day B737 vs B787. If I moved a day I would get a (scheduled) B787, but I can't move; and if I did, they could easily swap it out again. I think this will be my last WY trip.

I love their product but I’ also realise they are a small boutique airline. They have a fleet of just 9x 787’s and run a double daily to LHR plus a couple of other Euro ports and 4 or 5 Asian ports with these 9 aircraft. Doesn’t leave a lot of wiggle room and forces them to sub out aircraft regularly.
I don’t know if it’s distance related but CGK and MNL are always on 787’s

This will be my first WY trip, so had high hopes for Business Studio based on previous reviews when I booked. Current reviews and comments suggest they are quickly downgrading that service from what was (and still is) advertised.

My TA and I struggled with this itinerary. Their non-daily services from most European ports made things difficult, as did their narrowbody services from some. See my OP.

When I booked, BKK was always a widebody, hence my choice. In fact, I originally booked a Business studio MCT-BKK on the return, but that was subbed out fairly soon after booking. TA had to cancel and re-book, else the claim for down-grading would have had to be done retrospectively, months later.

SIN also used to be widebody but it was down-gauged - posted in another thread.

I was and am keen to try them (again; I did fly them on a gulf short haul many years ago) but I'm afraid they are proving too much of a hassle. Six hours in a recliner will probably complete that story.
