Did you also receive a Plat renewal upsell?

Gold Free for Life cardholders, who applied a year ago:

Have you received a letter offering a pre-approved Plat card for $131?

The package promises a few plat benefits, notably a CDW waiver for OS car hire, TRansit Acident Insurance and extended warranty insurance, plus the concierge and personalised awards.

Considering I'm only putting through $20-25k PA currently, I think the free Gold option is still a better option, unless I use the abovementioned 'new' insurance options and maybe the concierge.

Is this just a stock-standard renewal upsell or perhaps an offer to try to shift us onto fee-charged cards?

Given that the normal platinum price is $250, they are discounting it by the normal annual fee of the gold card. Still, it is hard to beat a free card :)

My ANZ gold card gives some of the insurance benefits that are in the Citi Plat,
plus is a little more generous in the terms of the Gold insurance products,
plus includes warranty extensions that Citi only offers in Plat.

So I can drop my ANZ Gold card and its fee, then have slightly fewer features in a Free Citi Gold or get the CDW insurance (nice if it is truly international, without big holes eg IE, USA) and a few other insurance features with CitiGold for $131.

I wish this Citi Plat offered a few more perks. Right now the free Gold seems to be fine - and maybe I can upsell *myself* when I actually want to use the plat features!

Unless there are ways of getting the Plat upsell free for its first year, if not for life. ;)

Can anybody advise if the offer of 'no annual fee for life' is still being offered.
I clicked on the link to the Citibank website in the 1st post, however when transferred to the citibank website there is no mention of annual fee for life and it's now $119.00

I realise that the oroginal post was late last year, but is it still avail and if so I would love to know the link.

Thanks
Kazda

Yes I can vouch that the links do still work.

A friend a mine who I referred the link about 2 weeks ago, showed me his new gold card on the weekend...........

Saved him in excess of $150pa as he had a ANZ Qantas Card plus supplementary card......

Hello,

It was same time last year that I got my Citi Gold card under this offer, the expiry date was 09/07 and so I am now awaiting my replacement card. Did anyone else have only 1 year validity and if yes did you get your new card ? any surprises on the fees front?

Yes I have the same validity date.
No new card yet or anything related to it.
Yes I received a surprise last week - the Citi Plat upgrade offer, pre-approved, but as a totally new number so would have to set up new direct debit settings etc.

The upgrade offer was cheaper than the normal cost in Year 1 but reverted to the standard fee in subsequent years, $250pa IIRC.

There are a few new insurance benefits with Platinum including rental car CDW (v. limited in itself!) but not much else.

I posted a message in this forum in the Citi Plat thread and so far consensus leans toward retaining the free card.

I've probably put $20k+ through in the year but that's probably irrelevant to the upsell offer. :)

I got the upgrade offer too, but not interested.....free card is what I want

Yep I have the same expiry date, and no new card as yet..... suprising, normally Citibank are ahead of themselves on stuff like that...

Anyone else?

I got my card oct last year and have an expiry date of 10/09, but am anxiously awaiting oct to see if they do try and charge me any annual fee. I have not had any offers to upgrade to platinum, I guess I am too small a fish in the pond.

Sorry if this is answered elsewhere, but my wife has a fee free Citibank Gold card, but all our other cards are listed under my name, therefore all the Qantas frequent flyer points are under my name, is my wife able to give them my QFF number for the points on her card to be transfered to my Qantas FF card?

Thanks in advance.

I am not an expert, but I don't think that the FF points can go to anyone other than the credit card holder. I saw an add on the hotmail page the other day offering free entry to the QF FF program if you applied for an earth credit card. It was fee free for the first year, plus 10,000 ff for applying, I think before the 31 August, but not sure about the date. Might be worth taking for a year to get those benefits. Just a thought.

I've read that you can transfer points to someone else, but there is a min number of points you can do that. Just found the info on the qantas site:

Family Transfers
Enjoy greater choice and flexibility in the way you use your points. Family transfers enable you to transfer a portion of your points to one eligible family member, who is also a Frequent Flyer member, once every 12 months.
It's ideal for the times when you have enough points between you, but not enough individually, for an Award flight.
How Family transfers work
  • minimum 5,000 to maximum 100,000 points per transfer
  • maximum one transfer every 12 months

I'm in the same boat, my partner has the citibank card whilst I've got the amex card.

Ahh so you can do that at the Qantas end, but not the Citibank end!

Thanks

Got my replacement card 2 days ago with 3 years validity. When I called up Citibank today to activate my card, the guy mentioned to me about upgrading to Platinum as I was pre-approved but I declined the offer saying I would like to hang on to the fee free card.

He then offered me 4 additional secondary cards also 'Free For Life' which I grabbed instantly for my family members.

I also received a new Gold card yesterday with a 3yr life. The only difference on the MC is the updated security number on the back.

When I phoned Citi to activate the new card, the operator (not necessarily Filipino - may have been another call centre) didn't push the Plat upgrade, but it was a quick call from my end and I may not have given her time. ;)

Question for those considering the Plat upgrade:
would you be more likely to try it for a year if you could go back to Gold 'free for life'?

Just a quick note that while citibank cards normally have relativly good exchange rates for O/S uses, those with the Visa logo have an additional 2% conversion fee ...
