re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Markis10 - once again appreciation for starting this thread. With this knowledge and more general info from the forum I've been able to score, for next Xmas:

1. 2 x JASAs for Mrs Paddy and Jnr Paddy for 12 Dec this year going SYD-MEL-LAX (QF11 wasn't available:()
2. 3 x JASAs for Myself and the above-mentioned portion of the Paddy Clan for Jan 7 LAX-SYD on QF108

Now these tickets were scare as hens teeth being the holiday period... but I got the dates I needed. :p

The LAX-SYD leg hadn't ticketed, nor points zapped when I got an email from QF Res saying I hadn't provided info necessary to ticket. According to QF I had entered Paddy Jnr's birth date, but not mine nor Mrs Paddy's (whose birthdate I generally only whisper . Long story short I know I entered those dates but the system has 'lost' them :?:.

Anyway then provided the detail and casually asked if I could swap from QF108 to QF12 and the call centre person had a look, saw they were JASA's and said "why do you book these vs Classic awards? THey're much more expensive and none of us can work out why you get them":shock::shock:

Both legs cost only $150-$200 I think more than the classic award and I wan't going to explain to her the value to me of the 20K points, 180SC and upgradeability that comes with the JASA... felt quite please with myself when I got off the phone!

As a footnote, I booked these tickets without Mrs Paddy and Paddy Jnrs QF nos, and this seemed to allow allocation to 16AB which, as NBs they've no right to expect!

If all on the one booking, your WP'ness prevails for seat allocations etc., even if you do put their FF numbers in (although they won't earn any points/SC's unless you do).

Thought for a moment that we might be on the same LAX flight on 12 Dec, Paddy. However, then realised that mine is ex-MEL direct to LAX on the 380 on 12 Dec - also an ASA but I fluked a FASA at an excellent price (in my opinion), much to my surprise on that date.
When talking to QF phone operators recently, have had the same query from several on different occasion: "Why are you booking ASAs rather than Classic Awards?"
Perhaps we need to go quietly on all of this!

Shhh, we're hunting wabbits... err, I mean cheap ASAs ;)

Pity we can't leverage this lack of knowledge to get the Premium Desk to release extra award seats as cheap ASAs!

Just booked a HKG JASA... Such good value... especially for a destination I actually want to go to =)

I miss flying... with my line of work change it's been all DOM... I will enjoy paying the flounge a visit... hope it's still well...

I seriously doubt anybody would have booked an anyseat award through res as they always try to sell the Classic Award because I think they genuinely believe it's the best thing for the pax, however I don't think they put a value on a SC and points earn & purely look at the points & the (lower) cash amount required for a Classic.

I would hazard a guess that 95% of award flights are classics & the other 5% would be booked by AFFers online as the computer doesn't yell at them "no no no - book a Classic instead".

If Mrs Paddy & Jnr are on the same pnr they will able to see the same seat map as you, it's only if they're on a separate pnr that they wouldn't see 'your' (ie WP) seat map. Once the pnrs are linked then all pax will be able to view the seat map according the the pax with the highest tier status.

Yes, the times that I have talked to an operator have been when there has been some sort of glitch in the online system and a JASA or FASA would not confirm. And each time, I've had the "Go Classic" message.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Looking at booking JASAs BKK-SYD for December. Now online there are 2 JASAs at low points but also 2FASAs(direct flight).I didn't think F would still be on this route then.At least 2 of each.
However when you go to see availability up comes the warning that you have to have your CC sighted by the BKK office within 2 days and the cash amount is quoted in Baht.Has anyone else tried to book awards ex BKK and had this problem?I know it is a problem with paid tickets but surely awards have nothing to do with the BKK office.

Actually travelling SYD/MEL/LAX (QF411 + QF93)
Wanted the A380 and couldn't get on QF11, and it's more pts & SCs (can't help myself )

Well, all things being equal in a year's time (which they rarely are!), we may get to share a glass of bubbly in the MEL F Lounge?
It would be my first AFF meet up. But with my aging and failing memory, I will have to put you in charge of organising it in December, Paddy.
Is that a deal?

I've had several ASAs ex BKK and, yes, it is necessary to visit the office with CC in hand.
They are very flexible with the 2 day rule though and will hold the bookings for some weeks (months maybe??) if you call.

Thanks for that-fortunately we are there at least twice a year but really it is something that QF should look at.

It will be one of a number of Firsts, if we make it work.
It is the first time I have EVER booked a fare so far in advance.
My International trips are often booked within a couple of weeks of travel - and my domestic bookings, often the night before, so I am out of my comfort zone with these long range plans!
Being introduced to the joys of JASAs and FASAs has accomplished something that no other factor has been able to influence.
Advance bookings.
It still seems to me like tempting Fate but will look forward to the GTG, Paddy.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Just booked my first JASA x 2 - thanks AFF & the many members that contribute with great advice.

BNE-SYD-AKL-MEL-BNE

QF8 for the BNE-SYD sector & have jagged 2E/F:cool: & the all important visit to SYD Flounge:mrgreen:

All up for the two of us - A$251.42 & NZ$333.73 = say A$510 - 176,000 points with an earn of 260SC & 21,718 points......net result = 154,282 points

Pretty chuffed for my first go however, I'm prepared to learn if I could have done it for half the price:!:

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

A big thank you to Markis10, for the suggestion earlier in this thread, to pair a QF JASA ex-Oz to Hong Kong and on to Taipei, with a CX J Class return.

Just back in Melbourne - although the return via Adelaide did come as a slight surprise. Should have read the fine print more carefully - but have checked my printout and the booked flight showed up as HKG-MEL, with other options showing with the transit links (Sydney, Adelaide etc). Discovered it in HKG, at least, and it didn't matter at all, as it happened.

Excellent CX cabin service and the diagonal seat configuration was actually quite comfortable for in bed mode, although somewhat odd in the seated position. Great for those passengers who hate to talk to anyone on a flight, that's for sure!

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Would just like to add my thanks to Markis10 for all his good work. I had looked at ASA before and thought that they were no value whatsoever in booking. Did not realise that the points required varied so much until I read his post. I have now booked a return JASA flight MEL – BME via PER for 144,000 points and $600 for 2, receiving 280 SC. I know that here are better SCRUN’s out there but both myself and my wife have wanted to get to Broome for a long time and I had given up hope of ever getting there. Thanks again.

I think that is great value overall. Considering the normal cost just flying PER/BME/PER would be prohibitive.

QF must also be happy with the points liability on their balance sheet reducing, or at very least not going up at the normal rate.

I'm looking into this now but SQ return to Melbourne appears to be well over 4K in J. Then I would need to pay the same again to get on to Europe or the US. I assume you are doing it for the same reason as me, to get a return ex Asia to use each year. I can't make it work. On a related note Matrix ITA is worse than useless for pricing. It is showing Malaysian J to Europe $2000 more expensive than the airline's own website.
