re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Spot on, being trying to get 2 x JASA between July to mid Oct next to USA for 14 to 17 days, for 192K points each, had no luck, called QFF twice too, seems as a Q SG makes no difference.

So many in QFF now, so few seats made available on the so called "any" seat award (should be any seat "lottery" award), tried the basic award as well, sends us through another city or NZ and shows J on most long haul as Y.

Its all so frustrating why Q take this path is beyond me, no wonder many are deserting over to VA, with my new VA gold match in hand I'm thinking in 2012 will give them my business..

Yet I was able to find you 2 x cheap JASA seats SYD-DFW in July within a few minutes: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....find-jasa-to-usa-please-35271.html#post533318 Not sure how hard you were looking, or you're simply being too picky on a high-demand route.

Be sure to give VA your business next year - that'll spread the load around a bit.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Had two good things happen today, courtesy of QF.

Firstly, booked two JASA's SYD-LAX for Mrs Paddy and Paddy-son for Dec 11 2012.
Cost: 96K + some $$$ each - Excellent!
Very unexpected given close to Xmas, and because we wanted the A380 ride we're going via MEL. Looks like 3 U's are available on each flight, but someone snaffled two on QF11 before I could get them.

After I paid the $$$ I realised I booked the wrong day - should have been Dec 12 2012 which had only just become available :evil::evil:

A quick call to QF and a very pleasant person was able to swap our tickets. No cost.:mrgreen::mrgreen:

Saved me from the wroth of Mrs Paddy which was building... curiously, while these seats' availability was there on Expert Flyer, they hadn't appeared as options in QF's own web site. :?:

Oh well, a big thank you to QF, and for my next trick I'll arrange some USA AA MileSaaver Awards and the return to Australia in early Jan. Mmmmm.

Paddy

Can you book an award flight on AA with QF points?

Thanks in advance...

Given this is an 'ASA-specific' thread I'm assuming you mean booking an Any Seat Award - the answer is no, you can only book them on QF and JQ. However if it is a classic award you're after, then yes, via Qantas and Partner Classic Awards on the QF website.

Yeah found 2 SYD/DFW not enough points at $392K, can only be away 2 weeks approx., but can see 2 SYD/LAX later than we want (be colder NYC Nov) and need 3 weeks.

Can't you grab the outbound date that does suit & book & pay for it as a one way fare then just keep looking for the return date you want then when you find seats, do another one way ticket back to Oz?

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

One way are about same price as a return ticket internationally. Its the rerun they have no seats for. Can go in late Oct return 22nd Nov., but its 23 days away when we have 17 days max.

Might be able to find an OZ to LAX then return via DFW or even return from LAX via Fiji.

JASAs are the same price each way generally, for instance there is 2 tickets ex CNS:

Given the cost of fares ex USA that is a valid option! Or come home with one of the various US Carriers into Japan then JASA from there.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Markis10, I'm warming to this idea if one way fares can be had USA/OZ or part there of at right price.

Update:
Took your advise and booked Mrs Lime and myself in J out of BNE 12th to LAX Aug 12th., was the 192K points plus $965 cash for both of us, and now plenty of options to return to OZ two weeks or so later. At least it will be warm in NYC, (thank you once again Markis10 for suggestion).

Booked seats 14 J & K upper beck not mad about exit seats little privacy and both of us don't need to get up much during long haul flights. I guess it will be the 744 with newer 2 or 3 class seats (no 1st).

Have read through the entire thread, but I may have missed this question being asked.

Has anyone (WPs I suppose) called up and asked for an extra U (or P/Z/X) seat to be released, and then booked that seat as an Any Seat Award? Any luck with that option?

I've had more luck finding multiple Z or P seats than U seats for the routes I frequent. I'd prefer to book some U seats now as P is just overkill :) I'll go Z if I have to, but the points burned/SCs earned ratio is better with U

I thought trippin_the_rift had got some seats released around Xmas time but he's P1 though.

Unfortunately the seats I secured were classic. No such thing as releasing ASA seats for P1's :(

I too would like the answer to this one too.

Can see one J seat DFW to OZ as any seat award for the return date wanted but not 2 x J that we need.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

No one has been able to get a seat released for JASAs, your effectively asking them for a discount!

A discount on what?

Cheap JASAs are available when a Classic award seat is available. And WPs are able to ask for additional U seats to be made available. Would QANTAS care whether the U is booked as Classic or Any Seat? I'm hoping not, but I guess things may not be setup to allow that to happen.

They should care, by adding extra U availability they are effectively adding more cheaper JASAs to the mix, however it does not work that one in that a seat release does not go into the public pool as such. On what basis would you ask for one anyway, hi, I want to book a JASA but need you to release a seat at the cheaper level???

Additional Platinum request seats are only available to be booked as a classic (there and then).

Edit: Markis beat me to it ;)

I would call up and ask for an additional J award seat to be made available. Then I would ask for it to be booked as an ASA rather than Classic. Points cost would be the same - only that the segment would earn points and SCs.

Consensus seems to be that this is unlikely to happen (and that was my gut feeling as well), however does anyone have any first hand experience? or know of any actual instances of someone trying?
