OK, seems they have booked a classic award, so no point or status credits.

I was thinking this was likely to happen given:
...
I was on phone still when you posted, he said it wasn’t available, but Perth - Melbourne - Sydney was on Wednesday. This was about 36k points, but he said there was 3500K change fee and still insisted that I will not earn Status Credits or Points. I now have to book the Sydney - Newcastle sector separately. Now that I will fly with Aeropelican, I won’t get status credits, only points…..
Looking at your posts more, you seem to have booked a 'classic' after this post:
Im totally confused with this JASA and Classic Award thingy.

I need to fly from Perth to Newcastle. Checked JASA with following flights

Perth - Sydney Business Class, Sydney to Brisbane Business Class, Brisbane - Newcastle Economy. Total Cost 80,000 Points.

Checked with Classic it was total of 50,000 points and 70 odd dollars for taxes.

I am getting close to Platinum so, hence reason going via Sydney. Just about burnt all my points. Have about 60k left, however I am currently OS and have upgrade request for return flight in, which will require 40k.

I thought the JASA was cheaper??????

You were trying to change a classic award to an any seat and obviously were not able to make this clear to the agent.

The unfortunate part is that given the routing you eventually booked, it would have been quite simply to book as a JASA online. (Wearing the classic cancellation fee.)

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

OK, trying to sort my way through this, If I book a JASA direct to Brisbane and the Discount Economy to Newcastle, I should earn around 100 SC, but the conditions have at "Points and Status Credits may be earned on this fare. Classed as Discount Economy when Points or Status Credits are earned." I thought JASA would earn Business Class Credits?

You only get credited for the classes you actually fly. So if the Newcastle leg is in economy that is what SCs you get for that leg.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Yep that makes sense cheers.

I am trying to get my best bang for bucks. I am 180SC from Wp. I am returning back from Philippines, which should get me around 30SC and then Sydney to Perth which will be about 20 SC. So about 130 SC short after that, going to Sydney via Melbourne gets me 120 SC for an extra 15k in points. Then book Newcastle flight seperate, but wont get SC as its with Pelican Air or whatever they call them selves.

Cheers. This is great and I am learning heaps.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Well looks like I'll make it to WP in time. Going SYD-BNE then BNE-TSV (separate tickets) and coming back TSV-BNE-SYD on a JASA for the minimum points (although I could have gone all the way to Darwin for the same couldn't I?) so we'll see what happens. That will qualify me with two weeks to go. And it's all thanks to Australian Frequent Flyer!

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

I will be 20 odd SC short after this week, but dont see any problems getting 20 SC. Then I can sit back and relax a little.

I must have been living under a mushroom, I never knew Virgin had business class etc, seems they have come up a little. Since they took back 11k points back last year, I have ignored them.

I have 120k points with Citibank. I may transfer them across and give them Virgin a go. Other option is to transfer the 120 odd to Krisflyer. I travel to the Philippines a bit for work. So business class in a 380 would be nice......

Thanks to all the wonder people here, i have been a long time lurker. Now I wish I got involved in all this marlarky earlier.

Thanks Serfty, looks like 60SC each way SYD to VLI think I will use Classic as it works out about 240,000 points cheaper than a JASA flight return

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

When it does not work out for your situation it is not a failure to go Classic points. You are still going!
Sometimes the SC cost can be too high and you need to be the best judge of that.

Thanks! I've seen a few already.
I was really quite lucky, as I didn't have to do any extra flights, I just changed the flights I was already flying to JASA for the cost of a few points :)

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

I need 170sc before VA stops it's statut matching promotion.

I have 30k points (still waiting on 10k from one path).

Any suggestions for a good value JASA flight?

Hard for me to see where you are situated using my iPhone, but anywhere that you can find a 2 sector JASA with longer sectors like BNE/ADL, ADL/PER or coast to coasters like PER to SYD/MEL/CBR/BNE.

My BNE/ADL/PER, BNE/MEL/PER both got me 140 SC's

Now that I've booked mine in...! Found some absolute crackers Mel-Syd-Fra in JASA in July/Aug 2012....!

Booking ahead for a euro summer to avoid the tour/Olympic crush...

Spoke to a QF rep who said fwd bookings are very strong and they might even load some more A380 flights in next year to accommodate.
