Lindsay that is running on empty. Does being impoverished in FF points really affect you? It is after all a side game we play while we wait for Godot. Now of course Godot never turns up so it is time you put yourself back on the points bandwagon treadmill as you really cannot go below zero.
Mrscove pulled a First out of a JASA for 45,000 points extra but the SC and point hand back comes at the JASA rate which is understandable. Now that ride to Los Angeles kept her very happy and the QF service was excellent.
The points net story ended up at about 141,000 points compared with Classic at 144,000 plus she has moved very close to requalifying as Platinum. Any Seat can really rock!

Yes, all the flights have posted from yesterday, so now my account looks like:

Status credits earned from 01 Mar 2011: 640

This means that my next assessment date will be 28 Feb 2013. For me, JASA has been a manna from heaven to get re-qualified, I would have been lucky to get Silver on my flying. 140 SC's were from non-JASA flights, 140 SC's was from a JASA stuff-up by QF and 360 SC's from JASA's, so the uplift was excellent and only took 3 groups of JASA flights:

BNE/MEL/PER 59,248 points
PER/MEL/BNE 45,000 points
MEL/CBR/BNE 24,070 points

Balance is 4,005 points but I am comfortable. It affects me if I want to do another JASA, but likely I will now turn my attention to Virgin as I have 11 months to try and re-qual Gold there by flying. That way, my points can build up again (through ANZ CC & Woolies). Godot :?::oops:

Godot :?::oops:

I believe this is what the Literary Laureate cove was referring to: Waiting for Godot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wikipedia said:
Waiting for Godot is an absurdist play by Samuel Beckett, in which two characters, Vladimir and Estragon, wait endlessly and in vain for someone named Godot to arrive. Godot's absence, as well as numerous other aspects of the play, have led to many different interpretations since the play's premiere. It was voted "the most significant English language play of the 20th century". Waiting for Godot is Beckett's translation of his own original French version, En attendant Godot, and is subtitled (in English only) "a tragicomedy in two acts".

I'm not familiar with the play but just by going on the blurb I don't know if cove is ribbing QFFers in their vain attempt to get good awards when they are at rock bottom.

And now we are O/T....

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Lindsay,"Waiting For Godot" is the Samuel Beckett play where Godot never turns up so we use that at our work as a saying to cover off things that will never happen.
I can see JASAs have worked well for you so that is great.
Now on the subject of Velocity I saw the number of AFF members looking up that thread and purely on the strength of numbers I had a flutter on those shares. If they suck up a billion dollars of slush by way of sold frequent flyer points I won't get hit with a survival share issue later this financial year.
This year is a go for it year for Virgin so selling points for cash to fund the new stuff should help quite a bit.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Thank you anat0l and cove, my English teacher obviously failed to incude that as part of the English cirriculum in the early 80's.

I thought it was a play on the word "God" and/or "dot" and/or "Go dot", but didn't go googling (where of course I would have received an education ala anat0l's post).

Back on topic, I hope that my experiences can help other AFF members to see that it doesn't take a lot of flying to achieve status with careful use (and availability) of ASA's (regardless of class). I wonder if they will ever do a PEASA?

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

I've just received my new Gold card but it's still not reassessment time until the end of October. Now I'm going to be 110 SCs away from WP after this weekend. However we are going on hols for two weeks after that (on points) so I'll have three weeks to pull in those remaining SCs. Going to be tight. I'll probably do at least a trip SYD-TSV in that time which gets me 50 SCs but the remaining 60 will require some JASA work I think -don't want to have to do that TSV-DRW run again though - don't need that many.

So close...

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Following up if I need 110 SCs then I can go SYD-BNE-TSV in my normal cheap class for 25 SCs and then return using a JASA that will give me 100 SCs if I have that correct? I can get the JASA for 33900 points.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Warks, that is exactly what I have been doing on all my trips (disc Y one way, JASA the other). Go and get it!

Ring QF and see if they can find the flights you need, dont do it online. If they cant then cancel it, it should be fully refundable but takes time to get the points back, up to 4 weeks.

Just spoke to QF Customer Services, they tell me that u dont earn SC or Points on Classic Awards or ASA?? They cant help with anything, but to cancel booking and loss 5K points. Pay 700 for economy???

  • Fare is fully refundable.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Thanks for the heads up

I was on phone still when you posted, he said it wasn’t available, but Perth - Melbourne - Sydney was on Wednesday. This was about 36k points, but he said there was 3500K change fee and still insisted that I will not earn Status Credits or Points. I now have to book the Sydney - Newcastle sector separately. Now that I will fly with Aeropelican, I won’t get status credits, only points…..

So I should have about 7 - 10k points come back and about 20 odd in taxes.

Damn confusioning all this. But Im learning.

I agree with markis10, you need to talk to another CSA, that one does not know what the rules of a JASA. He thinks it's a classic maybe

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

 Wow this is confusing.

OK I think he has booked it as a classic. Which means I get no SC or points??? Is this right? How do I check what one it is?

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Hi Serfty, wondering if you might be able to help me. Went onto the One world calculator link and not really sure how to use it. Saw the input boxes etc, put in SYD-VLI and not sure how to decipher the info at the bottom. Distance is 1,542 miles
I am looking at my wife and I going from Sydney to Port Vila either by Economy or Business and not sure how many QFF points + SC's either will earn so I can work out whether to :-
i) pay for Tickets ( point + pay etc)
2) Classic Award, or
3) JASA booking

If no SC's then I can't see the point in burning the extra points on a JASA and possibly a Classic would be better ?
Thanks

On a xASA you should earn points and SC's in line with the terms of the program. A JASA segment with a QF flight number earns Business class SC's when booked in J/I/D/C/U classes.

Of course, that only works for routes Qantas thinks it flies - not for other routes (like MEL-BKK).

To do that, it's even easier to plug your routing into the "Oneworld Explorer Validator" box on MileageMonkey (MileageMonkey), click "[] Ignore errors (for expert users!)" and select go.

Read off the SC's from the "Biz" column from the table that appears at the bottom.
With each segment under the biz column is a number - they are the expected SC earn for a Business class segment.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Im totally confused with this JASA and Classic Award thingy.

I need to fly from Perth to Newcastle. Checked JASA with following flights

Perth - Sydney Business Class, Sydney to Brisbane Business Class, Brisbane - Newcastle Economy. Total Cost 80,000 Points.

Checked with Classic it was total of 50,000 points and 70 odd dollars for taxes.

I am getting close to Platinum so, hence reason going via Sydney. Just about burnt all my points. Have about 60k left, however I am currently OS and have upgrade request for return flight in, which will require 40k.

I thought the JASA was cheaper??????

PER to BNE may make better sense, drops points down to 36000 + $300 or so, 140 SC and 5k of points earned.

What about just getting the PER/BNE or PER/SYD as a JASA then purchasing a separate ticket for the BNE/NTL or SYD/NTL sector?
