Recently flew on a QF award ticket with a QF flight number between Sydney and Osaka (code-share operated by Jetstar), and despite phoning beforehand to check with QF telephone sales and referring to this website (https://www.qantas.com.au/agents/dyn/qf/policies/qfJqCodeshareInfoflightproduct) I still ended up having to pay for meals and drinks.

The crew told me to complain to QF and that i was 'only on an award ticket anyway'.

When booking the award flight I was not advised that there would be no meals/drinks and neither was there an option to pre-pay, hence I assumed I would just get them like any paid QF-ticketed passenger on JQi.

An e-mail to QF resulted in a standard response saying I wasn't entitled to it and I should have called Jetstar beforehand to pay for the meal.

I still strongly believe this is all bull**** as there is no mention anywhere in the QF FFP terms/conditions or my E-Ticket itinerary terms/conditions that the service should be any different to that of any other QF flight.

I guess that's what you expect with QF/JQ.

Sadly, I think you're absolutely right.

Well, from JQ, at least. I really don't know why you would bother wasting your FF miles flying with them (though to be fair, some people say the same thing about me and UA!)

May I suggest QF to NRT for your next trip to Japan? JQ is on my "carrier of last resort" list, along with Tarom, Wizz, Ryanair... Well, the list just goes on and on.

Nothing really wrong with UA (just avoid Ted), but Tarom's OK. When did you last fly them?

:)

That also happened to me when I flew Syd-Hkt! Cost me 30,000 points and $165 on taxes and NO MEALS served on the JQ flight.......

luckily flying back on an award bkk-syd with BA at least we got food, even though was Y food..........

I was under the impression that when travelling on a QF flight number, passengers were provided with a Comfort Pack, Meals and the other frills. I would definitely take this up with QF.

I just flew KUL-SYD in JQ Y yesterday (although not on a QF codeshare). There was a long video played at the beginning of the flight (with the Great Outdoors girl) and it specifically said if you are a Codeshare customer, you are provided with meals, a blanket and headphones (although everyone gets that anyway).

I'd persue it further with Qantas. It's very poor form that even QF don't know their own policies (although I can't say I'm supprised). Hit them up for some bonus points, it's the least they can do.

It changed in February and is indeed very poorly advertised, but when travelling on a JQ aircraft on an award booking, even if on a Qantas Flight number, food/beverages generally must be purchased.

When checking in for a codeshared HNL-MEL flight in June I was given an A4 page of information on the in-flight product.

I have scanned it and reproduce the text here:

Dear Jetstar Passenger,

As you will have already been informed, your flight today will be operated by Jetstar.

In late 2006, Jetstar started flying a number of international services, some of which were previously operated by Qantas. Qantas offers its customers the ability to fly on Jetstar operated services under a flight number starting with QF. This is called a codeshare flight.

Customers who have purchased their fare from Qantas* will be offered a hot meal on the flight, plus on most international flights, a light snack**. A beverage will be included with each meal or snack and a blanket and a headset will be provided without charge. Additional beverages can be purchased on board and Video on Demand units can be rented for 12 Australian dollars each, all subject to availability.

If you are travelling on a Qantas Frequent Flyer Award booking, you will be able to purchase food, refreshments and inflight entertainment on board. Jetstar offers a range of choices, subject to availability. Currencies accepted are Australian dollars and the currency of the flight destination. Credit card purchases are limited to 75 Australian dollars per card.

Should you wish to provide feedback on your flight experience, either to Jetstar or to Qantas, please feel free to do so. Contact details are listed below ***.

We welcome you on board this Jetstar service and look forward to looking after you during your trip. If there is anything we can assist you with, please don't hesitate to contact one of the Jetstar staff.

[Signed]

General Manager - Customer Service, Jetstar Airways.

*Excludes Qantas Frequent Flyer redemption bookings.
**Light snack not served on flights to and from Bali.
***For Qantas codeshare customers, please contact Qantas Customer Care at www.qantas.com/yourexperiencewithqantas . Alternatively you can contact us in writing at Jetstar Customer Relationships, GPO Box 4713, Melbourne, VIC, 3001.
I am not saying it is right; indeed I think it is quite wrong and Qantas sould advertise this fact more. In regard to this flight, I was misled into believing I would earn points/SC's for this flight, but did not. As a result, that June flight will almost certainly turn out to be the last international flight I ever take down the back on a Jetstar Aircraft.

On my recent Bali redemption tickets it was made clear at the time of booking that this change had taken place and that we wouldn't be fed or watered......fortunately the MEL FLounge 3course meal and Veuve Cliquot was a more than adequate substitute ;) !

Serfty's quoted QF document said:
Jetstar offers a rage of choices, subject to availability.
And their passengers offer a choice of rages, subject to applicability.

I wish airlines would stop considering award tickets as "free". They are simply paid for using a different financial instrument (even disregarding the actual money which has to be forked over in taxes and fines).

If tickets on a QF codeshare paid for with Australian currency include meals then tickets on a QF codeshare paid for with frequent flyer points (and a bunch of Australian currency) should also include meals. After all, that's what happens on QF operated flights.

Jetstar is pleased to announce the new "sub class" - the only way to travel for frequent flyers. We appreciate you taking a seat that we would not have sold otherwise but wish to point out this does come at a cost:

1. You do not have the option to pre-purchase food at the time of booking, should demand exceed supply of our overpriced barely fresh food you will miss out, we encourage you to bring your own but dont forget the liquids rule!

2. You do not have the option to purchase excess baggage at the time of booking, so if your most loved other half decides to bring back the kitchen sink from coughet that was a bargain, we will make sure getting it home wont be a bargain.

Thanks again for redeeming those miles and giving Jetsar a chance to help its parent really devalue the frequent flyer program, your loyalty is appreciated. We hope in the future you have as much trouble finding information about other devaluations as you did finding this.

Yours Sincerely

How ridiculous!

What is the point then of having QF selling their FF members Jetstar flights with a QF code.

Surely they could just sell the redemption bookings as JQ1 MEL-HNL etc rather than QFxx1. At least that way there would be no confusion and further dillution of the QF brand

Great analogy Markis10. Perhaps this should be merged with the "Good on ya QF" thread. I think you'd have to be bananas to use full FF points on JQ flight.

For QF to want full points for a JQ flight and then not provide any services is just ridiculous.

Tarom? 1988. I am relieved to hear that they have improved. It would have been difficult for them to get much worse than they were then.

This is very schneaky of Qantas and Jetstar. Award bookings should be treated the same as the normal QF codeshare bookings.

It's a real shame that Qantas chooses to act this way.

Certainly not QF but that is what I would expect with JQ.

With JQ your best bet is to expect nothing, not even getting to your destination, and then you won't be disappointed.

JohnK,

Could you stop rubbing it in until we get back from Queenstown in November :?:

With all due respect, if you are on a QF codeshare from LAX to DFW (operated by AA) you do not get fed or watered, even though you are flying on a flight under the QF code. What is the difference here? (Apart from the fact that it is an award booking, whereas you don't get fed and watered at ALL on AA).

The assumption all through this is that the flight was in 'Y,' but I can't see whether it was or not. On AA in J/F you do get fed and watered. .. I really love the cheese pizzas :!:

BUT it's not on an AA flight! And QF have always made a big deal that on a QF codeshare on a JQ aircraft you get full service. Certainly the last time I asked about it on their customer service line (131211) I was told with some umbrage that the QF flight numbers still equalled full service and the tone was that I was quite out of order to evern question how more and more QF flight numbers were masking the fact that JQ was the carrier.

There are no two ways about it - QF has elected to DOWNGRADE its service levels (once again) and once again rip off the customer. Surely nobody here is seriously going to suggest otherwise?

Insodoing it is further undermining its BRAND as a full service carrier and starting to BLUR the product differentiation between QF and JQ - that should be a big clue as to where it is all heading.......more JQ, less traditional QF and less service overall....coughola in my book
