No Meals or Drinks for QF Awards on JQ international

My gripe here is the inconsistancy and lack of transparency.
...
There is definitely NO "lack of transparency"!

When booking an award flight online, the following clause is presented to you before finalisation and afterwards on the booking acknowledgement page:
Jetstar International

On International Economy Award flights operated by Jetstar, food, beverages, amenity kits (blanket, neck support, eyeshade and socks) and Video On Demand units are not included. These items may be purchased inflight subject to availability. Alternatively, you may pre-purchase and confirm these items by calling Jetstar Telephone Reservations on 13 15 38 at least 24 hours before your flight, and quote your Qantas booking reference number. StarClass passengers are provided these items as part of the StarClass service.
Furthermore, the text based e-ticket receipts have the following:
JETSTAR (JQ AND 3K) FLIGHTS ONBOARD INCLUSIONS/EXCLUSIONS:
FOOD, BEVERAGES AND ENTERTAINMENT ARE NOT INCLUDED ON JETSTAR
SERVICES UNLESS YOU BOOK INTERNATIONAL STARCLASS.
ITEMS - AMENITY KITS (BLANKET, NECK SUPPORT, EYESHADES
AND SOCKS) MAY BE PURCHASED IN-FLIGHT IF AVAILABLE, AND
PRE-PURCHASED ON INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS (EXCLUDING NEW ZEALAND
AND JETSTAR ASIA (3K) OPERATED SERVICES).
As far as inconsistency goes, all I can indicate that this has been the case since the introduction of Qantas FF award bookings on JetStar metal; nothing has changed in respect to award flights since their introduction.

What this means to me is that it is extremely unlikely I would EVER book an award flight on Jetstar metal.

I got caught out in this 'scam' flying Mel-Per return. I booked via the Qantas website using FF points. The homeward leg was Jetstar -- paid full-rate points but no breakfast. Pathetic -- I won't get caught again. Jetstar was awful -- departed 60 minutes late and was packed to the gunwales with scruffs.

You need to pay attention when booking on the website. The orange star - « beside the flight number indicates it is a jetstar flight as per the legend on the booking screen (as opposed to a red triangle for QF flights)

I think people should be quickly discovering the real moral of all of this is that blowing your QFF points on a JQ award is a dumb idea, period. Not for a Y award and not for Star Class!

If you want a JQ flight, pay cash. The only exception is if you were in a real pinch, but I would like to think that probability would be exceedingly rare.

I believe QF flights between QF200 and QF399 are codeshares - someone can pull me up on this one. Not useful for anyone in the rut at the moment, but once bitten twice shy with a bit more armament for next time.

Also, QF codeshares are always clearly marked on the booking pages; i.e. if the flight is being operated by someone other than QF (with the exception of QantasLink and possibly Jetconnect), the symbol will not be a red triangle - it will be an orange star, a purple circle, a grey triangle or a green square). When you click on the flight number itself to get the pop-up, it will also tell you the operating carrier. The only reason why it may be inaccurate is either a bug or the flight was changed from QF metal to JQ metal after booking the flight.

To be fair to kit, and many other inexperienced FFers, QF247 (it would have a green square not an orange star) would appear to be a QF flight. There is no mention of the operating carrier unless, as you mention, you click on the flight number. Does everyone look at the fine print at booking time?

Also I can understand Qants having codeshare arrangements with Oneworld carriers, and some non-Oneworld carriers, but having codeshares for JQ flights to me is deceptive. Let's not even mention the fact that QF charges the same number of FF points for JQ codeshare flights that it would charge for a full-service Qantas flight....

They should be.

We hand out a lot of flak on this board as it is about people not reading contracts correctly and then stuffing up. I think that's not about to change, and there are completely rational reasons for that.

Also, I just tried to dummy book QF247 just then and I got an orange star next to my flight number. Even if it was a green square, if you had used QF to book flights before then you would know most of the flights you saw had red triangles next to this one, so immediately one thinks, "well, why doesn't this flight have a red triangle?" Then an inspection of the key at the bottom of the flight selections tells you why (e.g. green square means 'operated by another airline').

This I agree with. The way that QF charge full FF points for a Y or J award in exchange for a JQ JetSaver or Star Class award is unfair. IMHO Y awards should include full meal, AVOD and comfort pack service; Star Class should either be charged at a rate between Y+ and J award levels or not have Star Class awards offered at all.

Hi Guys..

As I said before.. my flight QF247 actually had a red triangle next to it, not an orange star.. I double checked this as I was complaining to Qantas about it.

As far as I could tell it was supposed to be a direct flight to Osaka as well, but once changed to JQ19, I had to stop over at Gold Coast and this extended my flight time by 3 hours.

But it doesn't matter now I guess, looks like my complaining to Qantas won't get me anywhere and now at least I'm wiser, if somewhat poorer interms of QFF points :p

The irony that the QF flight number charges a higher YQ than the JQ sector is disapointing.

Personally I don't mind the JQi product and am fine paying for meals etc, we fly to HNL regularly and we prefer the A332 to QF's 763. I agree through that a QF flight number should really include meals where possible, but their not going to do it if they do not have to!
