Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Interested in your tasting notes. Don't say it's got too much wood! :)

No, judicious French Oak and malo! Bright straw colour. White peach, grapefruit, lemon, tropical pear on the nose. Really crisp palate. Focused acidity. Lemon citrus tang (not spritz), cashew and honey complimenting the acidity. Young, pure and great length. A little more developed and complex than the 2013 I recently drank. Easily will go another 10 years. Bloody good drop!

I am not a white wine fan but after reading these tasting notes I may just have to make an exception and try it

I've had this red wine for 24 years and will open it when Wales win the Rugby World Cup. I think 2015 will be the year!!! (Although I'm not expecting the wine to taste any good - but I'll find out when it's been opened I guess.

Daver6
is back in action!

Interesting lineup. What's the significance of the 'Seventy Six'? Not familiar with it.

Interested in your appraisal of the Italian wine - to save me Googling, tell us more about it please.

Maybe the best idea yet to help make room in my cellar. I have many that are untouched since we moved in June 1991. The champagne and best reds turn over but what about the lesser stuff?

Depending on what they are, most likely not a good experience awaits so probably sell them on eBay and put proceeds towards renewal.

First vintage of Koonunga Hill from Penfolds was 1976 and this was a 30 year tribute release. Looking through my cellar notes it was a nice wine but nothing outstanding. What did you think of it Daver6. Still have a 6 pack of this laying around somewhere.

Cheers Mat

Sunday night Pinots: yum. Loverly fruit, sweetish tannins but long finish. Good food wine I believe it will be.

Just letting it breath for few hours to accompany lamb shanks. Doesn't need decanting just a little rest to recover from the shock of opening and to stretch its arms a little.;)

Ed:1.5hrs later. My God that's good. It's blown off the sweetness and developed traditional Bindi characteristics. Loverly rich palate, forest floor character. Brilliant.

Spot on. I happened to be at the Magill Estate cellar door when this was released. Seemed like a genuine step up from the regular Koonunga Hill for only a few dollars more per bottle. As Mat said, it isn't anything amazing but good QPR. This was the first one I'd tried in a good few years and is entering the drinking window. I think I have about six more left and based on the bottle on Wed night, will consumed over the next few years.

For those unfamiliar with it, the Le Sol is a Syrah. Here's the back label:

It was very good but just not quite there with wow factor. The standout was the Castelli Shiraz.

Castelli is a fairly new producer based near Denmark in the lower Great Southern, but sourcing grapes from various areas in WA. We (Daver6 and me et. al) had a cracker Castelli Cab Sav at one of our recent tastings. That had 10% Malbec which plumped it up very nicely.

I'm very impressed with the Castelli wines. Around $28/bottle from the winery. Excellent value IMHO. (They still use the 12 bottle case size - straight or mixed as a minimum ex-winery purchase).

The Peppoli Chianti Classico is from Antinori, which I guess could probably be described as the Penfolds of Tuscany. Very good mid-range Chianti IMO. Great with spag bol. About $30 at Vintage Cellars.

The Curly Flat was good but had lost some fruit definition to be a bit dry and 'toasted'-tasting.
