Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Friday Night Chardonnay Series:

Very luscious, if not unctuous wine. Bit too much oak for stand alone but nice with food. Lemon, white peach, butter... Maybe needs mor years.

Snap!! We had a Paringa Estate Shiraz with lunch yesterday... certainly luscious also but no real Shiraz character...

Tonight on the Gold Coast with friends. I brought two bottles as it was Andrews birthday last week. We started with the St Hallett (both bottles are 2011 Shiraz)

Okay, we decided to open this one instead of the Rockfords. Wow, it is spectacular - I smelt talcum powder and vanilla at first, very smooth and modest tannins. A bit peppery after the first mouthful. Apparently this is all the rage in Sydney at the moment

The The Paringa Pinot is the best of the lot. Shiraz from MP didn't do much for me either but the Pinot is fab. Chardonnay seems a bit variable...

Yeah.. We knew the pinot was good that's why we chose the shiraz.. The "haven't been to the restaurant before and we need to choose a wine that suits everyone and safest to pick the most expensive" moment :)

Somewhere way upthread I had a Paringa Reserve Shiraz with a bit of age - maybe about an '07-08. Totally different level than the Estate Shiraz - just as the Reserve Pinot is >> than the Estate. And, of course, cool-climate Shiraz wines are nothing like the Barossa-type monsters that most people are accustomed to, so many will cry 'rubbish' against that benchmark.

Just waiting for PJM to grace me with her presence for dinner; an '08 Curly Flat Pinot awaits its destiny with the angels.

Oops, the new format isn't loading the photo properly ". ". ". - oh no, the night is getting ugly

Its ugly all the time now with this "enhanced" app. :( :( :(

I'm enjoying another Maverick Twins tonight, lovely wine - punching well above its weight

Having a Coriole Shiraz, not something I would normally buy as I am not a fan of McLaren Vale wine but it was in a mixed pack from Epiqure. It is a reasonable quaffer.

TheRealTMA. is this your 1000th post??

Thanks! I was a hard fight to come up with enough $^%&$^%$. I'll be up to 10K in no time! :)

So yes, but I've never been a Virgin. I always fly QF or EK actually, never Virgin so it probably doesn't matter.
