Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Anyone who has been through the LAN lounge in Santiago would understand me- am there for a 6 hour stopover in a couple of days - and yet again will feel the pain of having too many wines and too little time :)

This Yalumba Grenache however left me underwhelmed. Surprisingly sweet, mid bodied and lacking complexity and length. Will put the others down and see if they improve with time. Anyone else tried this VM offering?

Must be the day for them. Nice one for lunch. Not transcendent but quaffable for left offers on toast lunch.

I've spent many a long layover there; really looking forward to experiencing the new one in late Sept for about 4-5 hrs BOG-xSCL-xMAD-HEL ;):).

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

Went to the Langtons Classification wine tasting evening the other night. Had a bunch of delicious wine :) The '09 Elderton Command, and the Chris Ringland were highlights. The new Yalumba Octavius and Signature vintages are coming in Oct, and they both look good.

In terms of recently ordered stuff - I tried a couple of bottles of Jim Barry's '08 PB recently - drinking well.

I have a 2010 Elderton Command tucked away, hopefully will be a cracker in a decade.

Command, like RWT, is one of my all time favourites. The 2010 was a great vintage IMHO and will reward careful cellaring. I've got 9 of the doz I bought left and hope to drag them out to a decade like your plan. Have a couple of the 2002 left still so it's possible through will power restraint :)

John, just got to the BOG LAN lounge - a couple of hour warm-up prior to hitting the SCL one in the morning. This evenings available tipples: selection.jpg

Starting with the Colome Malbec, something I have not come across before.......

Colome 2012 Malbec.jpg

Damn!! Too little time - only drank the malbec. A quick Ron Zacapa and have to board. In any case 1865 is always good, and the Sibaris carmenere is "OK" - both common at home.

Wine Tasting Group committee meeting to discuss forthcoming annual dinner later this month. This cheap 2002 St Helga (Stelvin) was drinking at its peak now and was a great accompaniment to the Thai fish cakes.IMG_2393.jpg

A Martinborough Pinot

The 2002 Charles Melton Cab Sauv (cork) matched the osso bucco well. Vibrant fruit, integrated tannins and good length.
The multi-regional 1999 Eileen Hardy shiraz (cork) had excellent structure. The Mt Langi 2005 shiraz (stelvin) had lost the white pepper nose that I recall from earlier tasting, with the beautiful rounded plummy fruit coming to the fore.

Good to know the Eileen Hardy is capable of going the distance. Have a few bottles of the 2004 I've been husbanding. Will resist the lure of opening them for now.

Haven't tried my 04s yet either. From memory they were under cork too. The cork in the 99 had that nice dense waxy feel about it.

I haven't been to Salta but it's on my list to visit. I also want to do more of Brazil but not around Olympics time and I need to time it for visiting the Pantanal because of its seasonality. Unfortunately that is just before the Olympics so I think I'll run it out to 2017.

How was the Malbec compared with Mendoza types?
