Red Roo, the banner on the new homepage doesn't align properly (see attached). Also I have cleared my cookies and cache. Windows 10 & Chrome.

Can't see anything useful on my netbook other than the login bit - needed to scroll up. Harder to do without a touch screen.

It actually works better for me using the Ad Block element hiding helper and I can get rid of that horizontal scrolling resource hungry fluff.

Far more compact and nicer then the previous - Frreedom!!!

Update:

The new-look homepage is the first in a number of steps to make qantas.com easier to use, and more personalised for customers each time they visit. The re-design incorporates our new brand guidelines as well as months of data-driven research and user testing.

The improvements mean that customers will now have their page load times halved, making qantas.com consistently faster.

Keep the feedback coming...

Easier to use? I disagree. Logging into my FF account now takes an extra step by finding the button that opens a popup tucked away in the top corner. Slows things down for the frequent fliers that will be using that function a lot, the old down box that was default on the old home page made things a heck of a lot faster.

The banner ads are way too big, I have to scroll down on a 1366*768 resolution screen (very common 15" laptop resolution) to have the fill boxes in a usable position to enter the data required to search for a flight.

So I don't know about making things consistently faster, I don't think the load times are any faster than before or if they are the decrease in time is so minuscule it's not noticeable (unless you're talking about the load time required for the search results to load, in which case I haven't noticed that either yet). For feedback, all I know is that the changes to the home page has lead to a consistently slower experience for me. Quick ways to fix this is make the banner smaller, lifting the fill boxes up or reduce that huge header and make it smaller like MH's website. This way the fill boxes are higher up on the page.

For me, bring back the old boxes on the right hand side with a modern update to fit the page style. It was clearly marked and made logging into my account a lot quicker. Those "Frequent Flyer", "Business Direct", "Manage My Booking" and "Online Check-In" boxes. Look at AA's website (bar the massive banner ad), cause I really like how they've got the log in box on the left and the flight search on the right next to each other.

One improvement that I really do like is making a link to redeem vouchers very noticeable on the homepage, big improvement with that one.

The more I look at it the more it looks like CX's website, down to header size, log in location, the search tool location and the region selection drop down.

A quick inspection suggests to me that Chrome is at fault here. Right Click and select Inspect Element and it nips back across to its correct position......

Update:

From today, Australia-based customers who visit qantas.com will experience a brand new homepage.

Any website with a banner that size is a very bad design.

Just noticed the homepage we've been seeing has gone live as the main homepage ( as RedRoo posted above)
I haven't had much of a play but I actually really like the look of it.. Very modern and contemporary.
It's ugly. Hiding the FF login boxes and adding such large banner images at the top of the page is very poor design, quite annoying and a major backwards step.

Creating something that requires more scrolling and more clicks to do what you want does nothing useful. It is a very poor design.

Not if you are a marketing guru.

Those home pages aren't targeted at members or other regular users, these pages are seen as billboards and are targeted more at those who don't use the web site very often. Those wide ads are right where people first look.

Check the SPG, AA, Hilton, Finnair, SaudiA etc. home pages - they are very similar in concept.

I personally don't like it but is easily avoided for those using FireFox or Chrome ... see post #43 ...

(My Ad-block element hiding filter is "qantas.com.au##.section.section-hcps".)

Which is a major problem. It completely ignores the entire reason people go to these websites. Users go to the site to do something. These banners make it harder for the user to do that, which then makes them unlikely to complete what they had gone there to do, go elsewhere to complete their task and reduce the chance that they return to that site.
In reality, these banners (especially that sort of size) do the complete opposite what what the "marketers" intend.

Thanks. I don't use FireFox or Chrome, I use Avant which includes the kernels of IE, FireFox and Chrome (you can switch between them) and can use add ons for any of those browsers.
The site looks much better and more useable with that filter in place.

Looks fine to me. As with everything, it'll take a while to get used to, but I'm sure I'll grow to get used to it in a few days.

Agreed. Few chicken littles I'm sure though :). Only thing for me is booking a restaurant is a bit hard now used to be a sub link.

Sure, because we haven't seen the consequences of QF tinkering with its web page before, have we? (such as the time they released a new format and customers were unable to book business fares ....)

Made a domestic booking yesterday and then allocated seats. I was taken to a screen where I could not get back to Home page. The Qantas logo top left was different and could not click on it.

Today I have been searching Multi-City classic awards. Every time I click on Modify search it returns to Home page not to Multi-City search page so then I have to click on Multi-City again. Sometimes information from previous search is retained, other times it is not.

Is any functionality tested before deployment or the customer expected to do UAT? Don't send IT processing offshore. Keep it in Australia where professionals can work on it.

A few cosmetic changes to the home page today...

FF logon becomes a drop down, rather than a pop-up. And the flight search/mmb bar is placed over the picture now, rather than below it.

Oddly enough when I login though, it shows me at the wrong tier on the new fancy login box. :-|
