New QF A380 reconfiguration!!!

Thanks for posting milehighclub, I'm really not so perturbed by the new layout. I think there are some good seats to be had in the top deck Y section and Y+ section......and I'm definitely tempted by row 48 and the bizarre boarding routine.

Spoke to a cabin crew mate tonight who just returned on this aircraft. He said that the issues currently are:

Row 48 apparently the pax will soon be made to board last. (A suggestion off AFF or FT, perhaps?). It is known they are premium pax, who will most likely be in a F lounge, anyway.
The number of crew working in the upstairs back galley.
The crew member for Y upstairs currently sits downstairs.
The removal of bins. Apparently trash has to be compacted and then removed, and this is having a significant impact on staff.
The removal of toilets.
Business Class pax coming downstairs to use the First Class toilets which is already occurring on flights that are not full. Also, the only thing preventing Row 48 from entering First Class is a curtain. It is thought pax may also try to access the F toilets.

I might change my seat from 1A to 2A for my future flight on this aircraft....

I will actually be impressed if the head-honchos are listening to feedback from pax & cabin crew and are able to resolve some of the above issues soon.

I've become quite accustomed to feedback falling on deaf ears where QF is concerned.

Weasel-esque marketing from QF.
Qantas are good at that! I'll never forget when the naiver younger self of me ended up in J for the first time and was deeply disappointed when I realized that the so-called "wine cellar in the sky" actually consisted of three whites and three reds like on any other airline :D

Now, don't even let me get started on the Qantas First "Suites" :evil: I know it's a 1st world problem but this product is exactly NOT that, a suite. SQ and EK have suites, QF only has a big seat with a big opening through which- you can be guaranteed- the FAs stick their head always in the wrongest moment. Unless they have a bottle of champagne in hand, that is ;)

dare I ask :shock: :D

I think best not :shock::shock:.

Probably at the moment when Berlin's grammar coach was explaining the that the most appropriate phrasing to denote the worst possible moment to pop the head in was most wrong rather than wrongest... Although really wrong is a binary state - things are either wrong or not wrong.

:confused: ...was explaining the that the...??? Sorry, English might only be my second language but you're confusing me now :rolleyes:

That is good feedback. Of course they could have asked cabin crew before they did the reconfig - they have worked so many different configs over the years, they know what works and what doesn't. They could have saved a lot of time before they did the redesign.

OT a bit...but the 'prison scrubs' always amuse me. Generally at least half of the people in first are wearing them before take off, and in most cases, shoes are off too. I assume the same happens in J...... And no shoes for take off or landing is just plain silly.

Safety lesson over.

I'm not sure if this is a coincidence however the QF1/2/9/10 A380 services that are staffed by the UK based cabin crew hand out the J PJ's after take-off. Travelling on CX the cabin crew in J will typically do a "shoes-on" check for all passengers prior to take-off. On the other hand JAL always has the optional extra for their J passengers to be in slippers prior to take off.

I really like the 2 seats on the side on the upper deck, they would all have side storage (?). shame it would probably take forever to get off the aircraft. Also very tempted to pay for row 48 in October. Given my kids and wife would be in row 49, with her brother and sister in law also in row 48, I wonder if we could all get the wait in the on board lounge.

I always ask for the PJs before take off then slip my shoes back on.

Last few times in Regional J on CX I've had my shoes off, more comfortable to lounge on the ottoman that way :)

Really cannot understand Qantas and until Alan Joyless is removed I am flying other airlines. Flying J on MH to London in September so will be interested to see how they compare. Just back from a J class Tokyo Qantas flight in the oldest 747 (22.6 years) and really spending huge amounts of money on the current advertising campaign does not help this once loyal Qantas flyer. Undercover Boss would not work here { Alan Joyce would not get it!)but that is actually what is needed (plus a new Board}

My friend in HKG said he saw three female Aussie bogans (his words ;)) proudly wearing them on the train into the city!
O M G... W T F??? Tragic and insightlessly so!

Anyway, I so would not change into the PJs until I'm well into the air on an overnight flight and before I actually want to go to sleep...

Oh, also read on seatguru that QF are planning to change the configuration of all the A380s by mid next year! Yuk. I really don't like the idea of having less toilets on the upper deck for so many premium passengers. I thought this newly configured A380 was a one-off to test passengers reactions. I will definitely not chose QF or their A380 for my long-haul flights then, if all their A380s are going to be like this. I hope I don't get a re-configured A380 for my flight to/from LAX in November.

Shoes and PJs? That's quite a look :)

I ask for PJs as soon as I board and change into them, but wear flip-flops.

That's a popular option. Personally, I prefer to change as soon as possible, because it makes me more comfortable, keeps my street clothes fresher (and avoids me spilling food on them during meal service), and usually avoids the long loo lines after meals (but not the long lines after brekkies and before landing).

I agree, loss of loos upstairs is dreadful. I'm really hoping our A380 in March remains old configuration (which it currently shows as in EF).
