New QF A380 reconfiguration!!!

I assume from your handle that you are Game of Thromes fan?

IMO, you will suffer painfully in row 32 on the upper deck. I would pick a different row (33AB/JK if available) and stretch out under the seat in front. The bulk head in row 32 is definitely not extra leg room if you are taller than about 5'8".

I'll second that but stretch it out to anyone taller than 6'. I'm 5'9" and find it quite comfy.

Most definitely a GoT's fan! April cannot come fast enough.

The flight is quite full as I booked last minute - so there are only middle seats available upstairs which I'm not a fan of. I also can't really get my feet under the seat infront because my legs are too long, so usually I sit in the aisle and have one leg outstretched and one knee in between the arm rests of the seat in front... it's not exactly comfortable :).

I have sat in the bassinet seats before in Y and while this was 4 years ago, I remember it being quite comfortable. Are these seats the same in terms of space?

Thank you both :)

And here are the seat choices I have available. There's not a whole lot of choice unfortunately.

Don't know what the bassinet seats are like on the A380 but row 32 on the A380 does give extra knee space but don't expect to be able to stretch your legs out at 6'5". Just read again and being in 32G might be an issue as that isn't quiet as nice as the window pair, but being on the aisle you'll be able to stretch out into the curtains between Y and Y+ I guess.

All the hype about the A380 being more spacious, comfortable, a better way to travel etc etc was not reflected in reality, even more so after the reconfiguration (or should that be enhancement) which made every class less comfortable

And in reality there will be those who disagree with your comments about the A380 not being a better way to travel.

Not me ... the comments are indicative along the lines of how nothing new is really to the advantage of the PAX.

MEL T4, 10 across on 77W (although the 388 lower deck has better room when 10 across), 787 10 across etc., they are all to increase revenue at the ecpense of PAX.

I would argue 2-4-2 on the upper deck could be considered as advantageous to a certain subset of PAX.

I am not arguing with the sentiment of your comments but IMO the experience in the 380 is better than other aircraft.

I am thinking in particular of the removal of toilets, the removal of sections of galleys that were a noise buffer between cabins, the increased time taken to load the larger number of pax, the barn that is most of the J cabin, and the Y seats that are in the boarding door that mean that it is not possible to sit there whilst boaridng is taking place. So many of the so-called benefits were removed when the reconfiguration occurred.

I agree. Having been there 2 x in recent weeks. But the rest of the changes...

F has been disadvantaged too, more J pax in the reconfig means there are more potential J pax trying to use F toilets. Not sure why QF don't have a rope like some other airlines do for the stairs.

There are 8 fewer J seats in the refurbed QF A380

Note Kangol's employment of 'potential'.

What the refurb has is a lower <Lavatory>/<J-PAX> ratio than before, making it often seem like there's more J :p

I agree that removing toilets from J was a bad idea, especially the more spacious one, but Kangol's post states that there is now more J PAX. Anyway, I don't really care, I just wanted to correct a detail I considered was erroneous.

also disadvantaged by the removal of the port F galley so that there is now only a 'cone of silence' curtain between F & Y

Whoops. Yes ratio of J pax:toilets is what I meant to type, that's what you get for working when everyone else is on holiday.
What is QF's reason for no rope? Safety? How do other airlines manage to put a rope up anyway?

Fewer toilets on the upper deck but far more pax: original config: 72J 4 WC & 32 PE 2 WC; enhanced config: 64J 35PE 30Y and only 5 WC for the whole deck… 2 for j 2 shared J & PE and 1 for Y. No wonder J are going downstairs

In the early days of the A380 they had a material 'tape' across the top of the stairs which was connected in the middle by Velcro. Seemed like a good option and would hardly impact safety.
