no the linkage is for tier miles earn only (for EY status). the earn is always flybuys points which can be converted at request to etihad from the way i read it.
Yes, that's correct. Note that in order to earn flybuys points from your Etihad bookings, the booking must originate from the flybuys website (or a flybuys offer via email say), so that we can track the member number to credit the points to. There is not an option on the EY booking site to enter a flybuys number.

Anyone linked their Etihad and Flybuys accounts yet?

I've got linked FB accounts, and linked the first FB account to Etihad Guest OK. But when I log in to the second (linked) FB account, the previously entered Etihad number is there. So I gather only one Etihad account can be entered if you've got linked FB accounts? Meaning I can only direct all FB points to one Etihad account?

Or am I just a numpty and not doing it properly?

Re: FlyBuys and EY

Hi Everyone,

So I have 25K Flybuys that I've racked up over the last thousand years.

I'm not currently an Etihad Guest member.

We have been family pooling with Velocity for the last year and my husband is a couple of solo flights away from gold status.

For those in the know can you actually transfer your Etihad miles to Velocity? It looks like on the Etihad site you can only book VA flights on the phone via their guest contact centre unlike (e.g.) Singapore Airlines that you can transfer to Velocity.

Since I am unlikely to earn points on Etihad flying with them anytime soon it seems more sensible to keep all my eggs in the Velocity basket.

I guess I can leave my Flybuys points in the account for the moment and transfer them at a later date. Thinking out loud now.

You are such a clever bunch when it comes to this stuff. What would you do??

Thanks AFF Smarties!

I suspect you are doing it properly. Unlike EDR, merged accounts are really merged and an offer applies to all cards within the merge. (Even get the same email for each card.)

Not sure I'll be switching supermarkets (5% wish discount still an advantage and EY miles not easy to come by in bulk) but I've certainly developed a new interest in flybuys and coles insurance products. Suspect there has been a fair bit of traffic to the flybuys snd etihadguest sites today

I am probably not the expert to answer this, but I think the answer is no. I don't think Etihad miles can be transferred out anywhere.

Incidentally, this new earning opportunity, particularly for tier miles, probably will make a big difference to my shopping, especially combined with Woolworths probably withdrawing from their arrangement with Qantas. On which I never fly anyway, so I was only ever getting the odd low-value Woolworths voucher from my Qantas points. I can't buy everything I want in Coles, but the balance will definitely shift their direction from Woolworths. If only Aldi would accept AmEx... These changes partly compensate for the big reduction in Etihad Guest value a few months ago.

Re: FlyBuys and EY

Hi All,

My wife has a flybuy card. So I don't sign up to flybuys. Can I like my EY membership to her flybuys card?

Thanks,
K.

You can use EY miles for domestic VA (y only) redemptions at 6900 miles for short to medium length fl8ghts. Some may find it useful

SYD-ZQN and BNE-VLI are both 6,900 EY miles in Y. That's the equivalent of 17,250 Flybuys points which would ordinarily convert to supermarket savings of $86.25.

I think you would need to be a supplementary card holder on her flybuys account and you could link to your etihad account from there

Re: FlyBuys and EY

Ok thanks. The Syd-Zqn for 6900 looks like a good deal

Its 6900 Etihad miles in economy. The redemption table is in link below

What I can't find anywhere is how much the taxes/surcharges would be. Does anybody know?

Thanks.
Interesting that you can get as far as Cairns and Queenstown (from SYD) for the same miles

Any route up to 1,250 miles in distance costs a flat 6,900 miles in Y. SYD-ZQN just scrapes in.

Any route up to 1,250 miles in distance costs a flat 6,900 miles in Y or 13,800 in J. SYD-ZQN just scrapes in.

you cant redeem J on virgin domestic business, despite the fact they publish the mileage.

The table below indicates the miles required for a one way redemption ticket based on the distance traveled. Virgin Australia Long Haul awards are offered in Economy, Premium Economy and Business Class while Virgin Australia Domestic and International Short Haul are offered in Economy Class only.
