Regular flights to return to western NSW skies, Dubbo to be a hub

The new deal brings regular air services back to towns after a decade.

I am sure it will be in other media outlets soon, but good news for Western NSW, now if they could just get some rain up there they would be really happy.

Thought I would share here if there are any medico's who have wanted to work in the area but haven't been able to overcome the logistical problem of getting out there. Jetstream 32 and Piper Chieftan aircraft. Was surprised these towns went so long without air links to anywhere considering the large amount of mining companies operating in the Cobar region.

Interesting the flights head SYD-Cobar and not SYD-Dubbo. I guess too much competition for them on SYD-DBO.

Yes - probably so - I am guessing that Rex and Qantas are both still competing on the SYD-DBO route, I wonder if the Fly Pelican Jetstream 32 will be based in Sydney (or Newcastle actually), with the Chieftan based in Dubbo, to do the other smaller places such as White Cliffs, Bourke and Walgett? Thats what the article and route map seem to suggest anyway.

I also see that Fly Corporate are doing the DBO-BNE route and the DBO-MEB (Essendon) both no competitors.

BNE-DBO-MEB was first started by Jetgo flying the E135, the E135 is like a SAAB340 on steroi_s.

BNE-DBO is probably only big enough for a Metro but it’s a long way in a Metro23 where a SAAB340 is much more comfortable.

As a young boy, son of a Bourke bank manager, I remember the evening flight down from Bourke well. The little airline was called Davey Airlines, it became Avdec, then we moved away and I lost track.

I remember flying into Sydney at night on those little planes, about 8 years old, often via Nyngan, open coughpit, I would peer in and was bedazzled by the lights of 1980s Sydney as we lurched down to the old flight facilities terminal. Think that’s where I got the flying bug from.

Anyway, great to see planes flying back in. Might take the ride up and go to lunch at the Royal Hotel and a swim in the river for old times sake.
