Here’s hoping this can be used as another prong in the fight against COVID19:

The US Food and Drug Administration has authorised the emergency use of Paxlovid, a pill that can be used to treat Covid-19.

The authorities need to have a treatment arm for the prehospital Covids.

Start treatment early not when the patient is in hospital.

Basically anyone with comorbidities and symptomatic of Covid should have treatment started by GP. (Whether it’s this pill or another)

Symptomatic Healthy Covid positive possibly might benefit.

That was a wonderful description by the Pfizer PR team. Unfortunately there are a lot of problems using this drug which are explained in the FDA report of it's approval.

The Merck drug which has now also been approved by the FDA is a lot safer. It may appear that the drug is less effective but the study was with patients who already had mild to moderate disease so at higher risk of progression. Here is the FDA approval.
