JohnK - if you stop using smilies it isn't an issue!
But I like using smilies. Sometimes.

You wouldn't be saying that to straitman. He won't be able to post without smilies.

After I reported the dilemma the smilies have assumed a random formation for subsequent posts, don't know which ones will be duplicated or which are missing and no guarantees that any of them appear on my post after I have used them.

And no I have not had anything to drink, nor is there anything wrong my eyesight.

John, I'm not sure what you mean by this. What do you mean by "random formation"? What/ where is the duplication and missing problem?

When I click on "post reply" or "quote" I get an editor with the list of smilies on the right hand side. It has a box of 15 smilies and a more option on the bottom. Well the 15 smilies that appear while editing keep changing formation and many are duplicating. The formation is never the same for the next post.

Right now reading across and then down I have
razz, wink, very happy
surprised, smile, sad,
confused (blue), mad, rolls eyes (blue)
cool, surprised, surprised,
razz, arrow, shocked

Here is an example. Openning this same "Reply Post" several times, I get a different arrangement of smilies each time.

I have "attached" 3 .JPG images of that section of the screen to show the random and repeat nature of the Smilies. So hopefully you can detatch the attahments and view them (first time I have used Attachments in a post).

Seems 1 and 3 are showing the same order.

Admin - thanks for all of your work on the forum software. I very much appreciate it.

One question I do have... are there any configuration options available to you for formatting the "reply quote" part of a post. I liked the way that many forums (including the old AFF software) use a different background colour and font size for quoted text because it helps it to stand out a little more. I find that quoted text in this new forum software blends in a little too much for my eyes. However I do admit that my eyesight is on the decline which does not help!

BTW, I see a similar problem to JohnK regarding the smilies. While I type this post, I can see 3 of this smiley: (razz) on the right hand side of the window.

BTW, the limit on the number of smilies is a bit low in my opinion. If you quote someone and there is a smiley or two in the quote, then smilies in your own post begin to disappear, so you then have to edit the quote if you want your smilies to appear. Hope that made sense!

Only sometimes?
Yes only sometimes whether you want to believe it or not.

straitman isnt the one complaining.
But if he was here he would be complaining. So to avoid any trouble when straitman returns I made an executive decision to raise the complaint on his behalf. Is that ok with you?

If there is a limit on emoticon use, then that is good as far as I am concerned. Some people seem to have a desire to use them to distraction .

Dave,

I've never had a problem with over-use of smilies. ;) On longer posts, it would be easy to use 3 or 4 but this is no longer possible if there is already one in quoted text or you use a "Post Icon".

Yada Yada - have made some changes to the templates. The quote boxes now do have a (slightly) different background to the rest of the message.

JohnK - I think we have resolved the random smily issue. You can now have upto 6 smilies per message - more than enough, me thinks!
:p  :) :D ;)

I notice the Private Message Mailbox capacity has been increased to 100 msgs. Ta Admin.
