I noticed this just started. The default setting in user options seemed to change to "Instant Email Notification". Go to options (User CP, then Edit Options) and set the Default Thread Subscription Mode to your desired setting.

As a wise man once said "Been there, done that!"

Hey there is always a party pooper around and it as well be me again. That way you don't have to get used to hating a new person but someone you are familiar with already.

I do not like it. Too coughbersome. I hope it does not take too long for me to get used to it as this is very frustrating. One of the reasons I did not frequent FlyerTalk too often.

Pages are too slow in loading and there are too many ads in between posts. Yes I know ads are necessary but I want to follow the thread not the ad.

The old version used to be so easy to display on one screen all posts since my last visit and if I replied it would move to top of list, now as soon as I reply to a post it is removed from the new post list.

Maybe I am wrong but when editing a post the emoticons seem to disappear.

When using the quote button for a post that already includes previous quotes only the latest text is carried to replied post and not the quoted text. Sometimes previously quoted text is relevant to the reply.

The old version had 25 replies to a page where as now there are only 10.

Wierd, To me the pages seemed to load faster, and I like the way it is much better at progressively drawing the page as content is received.

I agree that more posts per page would be nice! 10 is a bit limiting

Point taken! Now displaying 15 posts per page.

Stick with it and you will get used to it ... at least that what the MC said at my wedding .

I don't see any ads in between posts, so not sure what you are seeing there???

I rarely used the "all posts since last visit" feature of the old system. But I love and always use the "View First Unread" function when viewing a thread. This was one thing I longed for on AFF as I live by it on FT.

There are three different Message Editor Interfaces available. You can select your own default Message Editor Interface in the User Options settings. Go to CP User, then select Edit Options. Its the last option at the bottom of the page.

This is usual for this BB software and the same as FT. Its a compromise between efficiency, readability and context.

This is user definable also. On the User Options settings described above, you can take the forum default value or select your own from 5, 10, 20, 30 or 40 posts per page.

Yes point taken. All good things take time.

I see a many many ads. Some take a while to load.

Well I used to love this feature and I have just found the equivalent. Well almost. Today's posts is just as good. Just so I get a general overview of what is going on rather than viewing each forum individually.

I must have the WYSIWYG version.

No more funny games with pretty boxes then.

I am trying it with 40 per page for now.

Thanks for all your generous help NM and thanks Admin.

There is also a New Posts link in the Bar near the top. The same bar that has the User CP link

There appear to be an additional ad frame after the first post in every thread; this currently is the QF mercedes shockwave flash and and they are killing my PC! Also, between the text of the last post of each thread and the signature/status lines, two "textual" advertisments/links are being inserted.

"New Posts" has been a boon with FireFox tabbed browsing; right-click on
firstnew.gif
, then "T" (Open in new tab). Now it's (for me at home) a PITA!

There is a uncomplicted way to get around this; 1) select reply to the original post you wish included in the quotes, 2) select "all" and copy the text; 3) go back 1 (ALT + <--), reply to the post that quotes the original quote & 5) paste the copied text in the correct spot, and away you go... (It's easier than it seems... I did it with this post ^ )

I use 20.... a good compromise between dialup speeds and broadband(etc)

The "Today's Posts" link may help you out a little bit to replicate what you were used to.

http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/community/search.php?do=getdaily
Yes thanks Mal, I stumbled upon this option and it looks like it will be used regularly on my notebook.

Any idea how to replicate the old "URL" function where you could hide the link with a word or phrase?

Thanks oz_mark but this is the one that drops the posts from the list once you have read them or replied to them. As Mal mentioned "today's posts" seems to be the go.

The smilies on the right of the post do not seem right. Surprised and razz appear multiple times and I am missing smilies like shocked, evil, crying, LOL. Any ideas anyone?

FWIW, I have for the time being given up on Firefox and am using IE, it seems to work better; as a result my browsing enjoyment is decreased. :-(

My Avatar is not shoing up on IE; it does with FireFox. :(

Try converting it to a jpg, png can be a little flakey on websites Ive found.

i.e. thinks its a gif, as the link in the source is serfty.gif, rather than serfty.png. Try uploading it again, maybe a dodgy import or something

Ok, Ok I take everything I said back. I love the feature of clicking on the post count for the thread and it lists who has posted and how many posts. :)

Not doing my load times a lot of good. I suppose will get used to it eventually.

Can't quite grasp this concept yet but I know how to use nested quotes so I will have to do this for now.
