    Howdy all,

Has anybody heard of a new airline starting from scratch, I was reading in Australian Aviation that "there are rumours of a new Australian airline planning trans tasman flights to the US using 777-300LR's" it also says they have a strong financial backing.

    Does any body now more?

    Cheers

"777-300LR" Doesn't exist. There is the -200ER and LR, and the -300ER.

Virgin Blue just announced they're buying some -300ERs for flights to the USA, perhaps that's what the rumour is about?

  3. No, I read the Aus Aviation article too - it definitely states that an Australian carrier (not DJ or QF) has ordered some 777's and plans to start trans-pac services. Unfortunately it's only a couple of lines in a long story, and there aren't any further details.

woops my bad, made a typo error. I heard that Virgin have ordered the -300 varient of the 777, but the article just caught my eye and started to wander.

Odd, my money would definitely have been on Virgin Blue (perhaps Pacific Blue?) as they have announced both intention to fly transpac and orders for 777s. I'm sure someone on AFF would have picked it up by now if there was another carrier that had got to the point of placing orders.

trans tasman flights? Assume another typo, or is that was that in the Aus Aviation article?

  7. I would have thought so too. Ordering a few 777's is a bit different to ordering a few Cessna Caravans. Is anyone able to confirm this story?

well i think this new airline would ruffle some feathers if and when they get into service, but i would probably stick with Qantas on the Syd - LAX/SFO route all though i am a fan of the 777.

I'm sure that it won't be a new airline. It is likely either Pacific Blue, or some new holding company for these flights. Virgin Blue cannot fly trans-pacific under it's own name.

WHile they may go with the "Pacific Blue" moniker, my feeling is that they may come up with yet another name. But I do suspect that this is what the article would have been about.

I would have thought that the intelligent community here would have not speculated nor guessed at their replies. Instead of bagging the original poster for inconsistency in their statements e.g. the type of 777 or the colour of the hosty uniforms, why not for a change stick to the thread and try and answer the question asked – see above.

It is fine correcting people when they make a mistake, but those of you who seem to have little better to do than this – don’t you think just for a change that being original (and a little less boring) would benefit the FF community a little better?

I for one have taken on more than one occasion a MEL/AKL/LAX Qantas flight – that in itself is a trans Tasman US flight…

Hmmm, there was a story about SkyAirWorld in today's Sunday Mail, page 27:

So assuming it's the rumoured airline, not 777's...

I think you'll find te OP admitted to a few typo's, we've all mdae them form time to tiem , and persnally, I don't midn if othres correct the ones I make.

However, given the notorious inaccuracy in the media, I would have thought it important to establish the exact quote. The more factual errors in the actual wording of the article (as opposed to typo's in the posting) the more likely the article has been written based on gossip and hearsay than actual fact. If the article had suggested a new Australian airline had ordered some Airbus 797's to fly to the US via Bass Strait I think we'd nearly all think it was BS!

And I had a look at the Australian Aviation article last night and definitely separate to Virgin Blue. Maybe there is an airline with strong Australian (and some foreign - perhaps Singaporean) backing looking at the opportunity.

Umm, I have a feeling that the alleged 777 operator would be a different one from SkyAirWorld.

And I certainly hope they are not going to fly their E-jets Trans-Pacific!

I read the AA article and assumed at the time it was referencing DJ's purchase of 777-300ER aircraft.

I would not be surprised if a new airline had a tie in with Delta, timing is right!
