New ANZ FF Black offer - 130k Qantas points & 75 status credits (July 2020)

I've recently gotten this card, my first from ANZ.

I was really surprised making a US$80 purchase where ANZ were charging AU$5 over the mid-market (xe.com) rate. Once it finally settled a few days later it was $3.60 difference. Most decent cards I've had wouldn't be more than a 50c difference.

I guess this probably echos other peoples experience and it's no doubt all in the T&Cs?

Will have to stay away from any other non-AUD tansactions before churning....

Yeah the Visa exchange rate + the 3% foreign transaction fee makes it super rough. Nothing stopping people from making US-based transactions but its expensive.

The Mastercard exchange rate would be better.

Cheers. It had been that long since I used a card that adds a fixed % on top, I forgot it was a thing! Oh well, it was only a few dollars and that'll be the last non-AUD.

Thanks!

Anyone have any idea how long the $200 cash back offer has been up for, or is it new?

No status credits by the looks of things, and only 120k points, but you get $200 back in the card. All within the first twelve months.

Does ANZ accept rental income as part of the $75k income requirement? If so, how many months of rental income do they need to see?

I can't answer your question directly, but I had a hell of a time with ANZ having fairly simple financial affairs - I wouldn't bother with a line call, there appears to be no provision for any independent thought in their offshore back office processing centre.

Hi All... I've targeted this card. Need it to get 350,000 to keep Points Club Plus. I need this by 30th June.

T & C's state no new ANZ rewards opened or closed in the previous 12 months. In 2020 I was approved ANZ Black on 10/2 activated 18/2 and closed 6/4 after receiving points 21 days from spend.

I'm assuming the 12 month limit expires on the 6/4/2021? I was thinking of applying on the 7/4 activating and spending right away. Will it matter if I apply before the 7/4 or just if it is approved or activated before then. Not a lot of wiggle room on this one and I'm keen to hear people's experiences, to avoid any potential mistakes.

Cheers

Can anyone comment lately on how long the 120k bonus points have taken to post? Just got my second statement and have hit spend but no bonus. Hoping it’s quicker than the stated 3 months.

When you're planning to apply so close to the 12 month exclusion period, it's worth calling the bank to confirm exactly what date they have the card listed as being closed. I've found the banks can sometimes take a few days to completely shut accounts down after you've requested it.

I'm always honest with my intentions when I call, I say I'm thinking to sign up again and want to confirm eligibility for the bonus - they've always been more than happy to help.

I hold this card and was wondering if anyone has rolled into the second year yet and been credited the second 30k points.

Does anyone know which statement the $200 cash back appears on?

Just got first statement and the annual fee is there but not the cashback.

They are a bit sneaky, the first statement start date is 10 days before I even applied for the card and the end date 10 days after I activated the card. Means in reality I dont get 3 full months to do the minimum spend.

In non covid times super easy to hit $3k in a month, but with no travel (not even bus fares to office), no ablity to go out and very few opportunities to spend money its going to be tight, might have to book a fully refundable hotel stay then cancel it after the bonus posts.

Supermarket gift cards does the trick.

$3k of supermarket spend would take me over 10 months, thats a long time to be juggling gift cards.

I will prepay some subscriptions and then look to make a refundable hotel booking for next year that I can cancel after the bonus hits and before I need to cancel the card.

Thanks, I wont chase up then until I reach the minimum spend.

This might be stating the obvious but it also sounds like you may not be aware - reaching the minimum spend is a requirement of the $200 cash back:

Your application must be approved and you must activate the card and make $3,000 worth of eligible purchases within three months of approval to receive the 120,000 bonus Qantas Points and have the $200 credited to your credit card account.

Other cards Ive had havent required you to reach minimum spend to waive the annual fee or apply reduced fee, so yes i missed that bit. Last time I had this card there was no first year fee at all, so I only had to hit the minimum spend, which was much simpler when we were able to go places.

I have had to set alerts on this one, given I've lost 3 weeks of the spend period by virtue of them backdating the first statement to 10 days before I applied and 21 days before I received and activated the card. I will need to make sure the rest of the $3k is hit during statement period #2 to allow for slow processing. Ive noticed transactions seem to sit in a pending state much longer with ANZ than they do on my Amex when used at same stores (Coles, Cafe etc).

The card has previously been marketed with no annual fee, but the current promotion has no changes to the annual fee - it's still $425.

Yeah I knew that, but i thought it would be reduced by the $200 credit upfront, its no biggie. I still think $225 (after the credit hits) for 120k points was reasonable value. Couldnt see a better value Visa option last month.

Second month for me, but I was well past the spend target by that point. YMMV.
Same here - the $200 credit appeared in the second statement, along with the 120,000 points into my Qantas account. I had hit the minimum spend in the first month, just to kick it along and trigger the points.
