NEW! Amex Platinum Reserve Credit Card

Anyone know if the free flights to NZ would include the (new) code share flights with Air NZ as that would certainly open up more availability!

I called up to find when I need to book my "free flight" and found it is the anniversary date of having the card. (I was not sure since I had to book by Oct last year to gt a QF flight.) So i you activated/received a card on July 15th then you have until this date the next year to use the "flight" up.
Am thinking about using the flight to NZ, and will book it shortly.

Any way of knowing which fare bucket it needs availability in?
...
Based on my recent booking experience:

-Fare buckets: X, L, C, E (Somewhere in those classes)
-Can't pay extra to book into high classes
-Direct flight only
- $70 fee + airline additional for date change
The free flights I booked using the card ended up in R Class. They didn't earn Velocity points.
I also asked what fare class they booked into.

The answer (After a pause - like I could almost percieve the agent thinking "well ... Duh!") was "economy"!

I pressed, asking which of the different economy classes ... a short pause then was told "Saver".

Finally I said, "If I had access to a GDS what individual fare class letter should I look for?". It was almost like a light was switched on - "Tango" or "Romeo" was the confident answer!

So, if this is the case, R class is corroborated and T class is mentioned. I guess to test this one needs to find a flight with T availability but no R then try to book it.

Just called as well, and asked what Classes they look, and suggested "T or R", and the agent quickly responded, almost with a surprised giggle, "Yes, that's it!"

Also, on the day/flight I suggested, ExpertFlyer reported this for availability: J7 O6 H4 Y7 I7 D7 N7 B7 M7 S7 T7 A7 U7 X7 R0 L0 P7 C7 E0, and it was a valid flight with seats available.

I also asked if it can be on any NZ code share flights. Her response was "no, sorry, we don't currently allow that - it has to be Virgin operated, but we are currently in negotiations with Air New Zealand, but for right now now, it's just Virgin"

So, good news on both fronts!

I also asked this again today and the answer was not quite so certain.

She though it was only Virgin but was not sure!

So these flights earn points/SCs?

Not that it really matters, just interested to know.

Looking to book my free flights shortly ...

Just ditched my Gold Amex charge card of 25 years for the Platinum Amex charge card. When I was on the phone to the rep, she said I get a free Platinum Reserved credit card at no extra cost (normally $395). I sort of hesitated as I like to keep the cards seperate for work and personal; Amex/Visa for work, and MC for play. But I'm wondering if the free-points deal applies to the extra complimatary card. An extra 25K+ points would nice for nothing.

I've found with the cards attached before that the points do credit even if not supposed to. I've also found when downgrading a card from an Ultimate Qantas to a Discovery Qantas card I still got the points offer as well!

It's worth taking the free card with the Plat Charge as you get the annual return flight with it - even if you don't use the card at all.

Sent from my iPhone using AustFreqFly app

Just rang Amex. The points offer doesn't apply but the free flight does. I applied on the phone anyway as free flight is worth it, but I have to fill out the app form and financials from scratch. Jeeesh.............
